Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogotá

About this hotel

General information

Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina occupies a mid-20th-century building that the architect Santiago Medina conceived as a private block of eight apartments, drawing on French classical architecture. Colombia’s Ministry of Culture has declared it a monument of cultural interest, and its stone columns, beamed ceilings, stained glass on the staircase, carved door to every room and original woodwork are all still in place.

There are 62 rooms, 19 of them suites, and no two are the same: some have a wood-burning fireplace, others a balcony over the inner courtyard, and the beds are made to order. The mood is quiet and club-like, all dark wood, leather and hand-carved detail. A glass-roofed Spanish restaurant, Castanyoles, a hidden whisky bar, Boulevardier, and a small spa make Casa Medina an intimate city residence beside the capital’s dining quarter.

Location

The hotel sits in Bogotá’s financial district, a few steps from the Zona G, where many of the city’s best restaurants are found. The designer boutiques of the Zona T and the historic colonial quarter are each around 20 minutes away by car. El Dorado airport is 14.4 km away, about 40 minutes by car; the concierge arranges standard or luxury car transfers.

Spa

The small spa, with a steam room, builds its rituals around Colombian ingredients. The Tropical Escape Ritual moves from a mango and papaya scrub to a body mask, the steam room, a massage and a facial, while the Amazonia Cacao Sensory Ritual pairs a cacao scrub with a warm Amazonian cacao wrap and a massage. Facials, including oxygenating and anti-ageing treatments, use Biologique Recherche products; bamboo and hot-stone massages, manicures and pedicures complete the menu.

Sports & leisure

The fitness centre has modern equipment, with fresh juice served after a workout. The concierge plans itineraries around the city and arranges bicycle hire. A licensed guide leads a food walk through Bogotá, tracing Colombian cuisine and the shift in architecture from the modern centre to the old town.

Restaurants & bars

Castanyoles is a Spanish restaurant and bar set around a greenhouse atrium and open from breakfast to dinner: paella, rib-eye, gambas pil pil, octopus with Colombian native potatoes and cocktails built on local ingredients, plus a private dining room. Boulevardier is an intimate speakeasy-style whisky bar tucked inside the building, serving finger food and cigars. There is also a sidewalk terrace, coffee and food to go, and in-room dining from early morning until late evening.

Pets

Cats, dogs and other domestic animals weighing up to 27 kg are welcome. Outside the room pets must be kept on a leash, and they are not allowed in the spa.
