About this hotel
General information
Upper House Chengdu is tucked into the lanes of Taikoo Li in central Chengdu, on land that once belonged to Daci Monastery. Guests arrive through Bitieshi, a restored Qing dynasty building with a tree-shaded courtyard that was once home to scholars and translators and now holds a library and a collection of contemporary art. Beyond it lie heritage courtyards, landscaped terraces and a sunken level with a naturally lit events hall framed by lawns.
The scale is deliberately intimate: 100 rooms and 42 serviced apartments, designed around Chengdu's own culture — timber, bamboo, stone, local ceramics and textiles — rather than an international template. Mi Xun Spa and its teahouse sit within old brickwork screened by bamboo, while the restaurants range from plant-based Sichuan cooking and Italian dining to a cocktail bar that works with local spice.
Location
The hotel stands on Bitieshi Street in Jinjiang District, within Taikoo Li, Chengdu's central retail and heritage quarter, beside the thousand-year-old Daci Monastery. Chunxi Road metro station (Line 2) is a short walk away. Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is about 20 km away (roughly 45 minutes by car) and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport about 60 km (around an hour); Chengdu East Railway Station is 7 km away and Chengdu North 9 km. The hotel arranges private airport transfers in its own Mercedes-Benz V-Class and Buick GL8 cars, which can also be hired for sightseeing around the city.
Spa
Mi Xun Spa occupies a heritage building whose original Western Sichuan architecture has been restored. Treatments use Biologique Recherche, Bridestowe and 111SKIN, alongside Hydrafacial facials and Zeva Hair Spa scalp care; the signature is a massage performed with bamboo canes. Grooming services and a resident barber look after men, and afterwards guests can settle into Mi Xun Teahouse for freshly brewed tea and vegetarian dishes.
Sports & leisure
The gym, open daily from 7am to 10pm, has Technogym equipment, free weights and a stretching area, with personalised training on offer. Every room has a yoga mat, and on Saturday mornings an instructor leads a complimentary class for guests followed by a nourishing breakfast. The Bitieshi building houses a library and contemporary art collection, and the hotel's chauffeured cars can be booked for sightseeing around Chengdu.
Restaurants & bars
Four venues cover the day, and in-room dining is available at any hour.
- Mi Xun Teahouse — a teahouse in a Qing dynasty courtyard: a wide choice of Chinese teas and plant-based Sichuan cooking inspired by dishes once served at Daci Monastery, with produce from small local farms and a zero-waste kitchen
- The Temple Café — an all-day bistro for international breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, plus house-made pastries, sandwiches, coffee and juices to take away
- Tivano — modern Italian with a terrace: seasonal ingredients, house-made pasta, dishes from the wood-fired grill and a wine list chosen to match the menu
- Jing — a Jazz Age-styled cocktail bar where Sichuan spice finds its way into the drinks, including a signature Sichuan Negroni, with DJ sets in the evening
Swimming
A 25-metre heated pool is open daily from 7am to 10pm, with a sauna and steam room alongside.
