The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong

About this hotel

General information

The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong occupies the upper levels of a 58-storey tower in the Shanghai IFC complex, in the Lujiazui financial district on the Pudong bank of the Huangpu, directly across the water from the Bund. Its interiors draw on Art Deco, the style most closely tied to Shanghai, and pair it with contemporary comfort. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Bund and the river, the Oriental Pearl Tower or the Pudong towers, which by night turn into a single field of light.

Most of the restaurants and lounges sit high above the city: Cantonese cooking at Jin Xuan, Italian at Scena with views of the Bund, live music in the Aura Lounge and, on the 58th floor, the Flair rooftop restaurant and bar. The spa and its indoor pool are on level 55, and the club lounge on level 49 serves club-room and suite guests five food and drink presentations a day.

Location

The address is Shanghai IFC, 8 Century Avenue, in Lujiazui, Pudong. Lujiazui metro station is close by, the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is 200 m away and the Bund lies just across the Huangpu. Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is about 25 km away and Shanghai Pudong International Airport about 45 km; there is no shuttle, but the hotel arranges limousine transfers on request.

Spa

The Ritz-Carlton Spa covers 1,500 m² on level 55, with ten treatment rooms, separate men’s and women’s lounges, a steam room and dry sauna, and a thermal suite with a crystal steam room, rock sauna, experience showers, an ice fountain and a relaxation room. The menu runs from massages, including treatments for couples, to facials and eye treatments, body scrubs and wraps, and treatments for men; the signature is the Bloom 360° Enrichment Experience. The spa is open daily from 10:00 to 22:30, by appointment.

Sports & leisure

The fitness centre on the 53rd floor has cardio and weight machines, rowers and free weights, with a sauna and steam room in the changing areas; fitness classes and personal guidance are available. The concierge arranges tours: a day in Shanghai taking in the Bund, Yuyuan Garden and Xintiandi, an evening cruise on the Huangpu, and day trips to Suzhou and the water town of Zhouzhuang, to Hangzhou and to the water town of Zhujiajiao. The 18-hole Tomson golf course is 11 km away, and the concierge can point the way to the Shanghai Museum and the city’s other major museums.

For children

The Ritz Kids programme is built around nature and Chinese cultural traditions. Its centrepiece is the Night Safari: a children’s tent is pitched in the room, and young guests receive a discovery map, a backpack, coloured pencils, a plush lion cub and a lantern. It is booked in advance.

Restaurants & bars

The restaurants and bars are on the tower’s upper floors, looking across the Bund and Pudong; in-room dining runs around the clock.

  • Jin Xuan — Cantonese and regional Chinese cooking on the 53rd floor, dim sum at lunch, a tea selection and eight private dining rooms
  • Scena — Italian cooking with a Mediterranean slant and Bund views on the 52nd floor; breakfast, weekday lunch, weekend brunch and dinner
  • Aura Lounge — a lounge on the 52nd floor open from morning to late evening for tea and coffee, light dishes, afternoon tea, cocktails and live music
  • Flair Rooftop Restaurant & Bar — a rooftop restaurant and bar on the 58th floor with contemporary Asian cooking, cocktails and views of the Oriental Pearl Tower; over-18s only in the evening
Swimming

The heated indoor pool in the spa looks out over the city and is open daily from 6:00 to 22:00, with a lifeguard on duty and towels provided.
