The Peninsula Beijing

About this hotel

General information

The Peninsula Beijing is an all-suite hotel: each of its 230 suites starts at 60 m², with the living room and bedroom divided by a sliding door. Interiors pair warm earth tones and quiet Chinese accents with Cassina furniture, while the in-room technology stays discreetly in the background. Its Cantonese restaurant, Huang Ting, recreates the courtyard home of a Beijing noble family, furnished with Qing-dynasty antiques.

Art sets the hotel apart: a collection of more than 800 original works of contemporary Chinese art, a gallery with rotating exhibitions and an art studio. The hotel is also home to The Peninsula Arcade, home to flagship boutiques of international fashion and jewellery houses. A house fleet of six BMW 7 Series saloons in Peninsula green handles chauffeured journeys, and The Peninsula Academy opens up the city through guided outings and hands-on workshops.

Location

The hotel sits in central Beijing, in the Wangfujing district, a few minutes on foot from the Forbidden City. Beijing Capital International Airport is 27.4 km away and Beijing Daxing International Airport 52 km; the hotel runs chauffeured transfers to both in its own BMW 7 Series saloons.

Spa

The Peninsula Spa on the third floor draws on Ayurvedic, European and Asian healing traditions. It has couples’ spa suites, separate men’s and women’s thermal areas with crystal steam rooms, saunas, ice fountains and experience showers, and an Oriental-style tea lounge for unwinding after a treatment. Treatments use Biologique Recherche, Margy’s Monte Carlo — which has its own themed treatment room — and the botanical Subtle Energies range. Signature rituals include a wood therapy massage with birch and cactus sticks and a singing bowl session, and there are treatments designed for expectant and nursing mothers.

Sports & leisure

The 24-hour fitness centre on the third floor has cardio and strength machines with personal screens, a curved Hammer Strength HD Tread and personal trainers, and swimming lessons can be arranged. Weekly group yoga and Pilates classes, a morning session of a traditional Chinese health exercise and a library of on-demand workouts complete the programme. Guests can borrow Peninsula bicycles free of charge to explore the hutongs. Huang Ting hosts tea ceremonies and craft workshops, and the third-floor art gallery is open around the clock.

The Peninsula Academy offers several ways to get to know Beijing:

  • a breakfast walk through the hutongs with a guide, tasting traditional dishes at local eateries
  • a dumpling-making class that runs from market to table
  • a helicopter flight over the Great Wall
  • a tour of the Summer Palace and its gardens
  • a visit to a kiln to see how imperial glazed tiles are made
  • an art journey to meet contemporary Chinese artists
  • an introduction to traditional Chinese herbal medicine
For children

Young guests can join The Peninsula Kid’s Passport Adventure, a guided, question-led discovery trail through the hotel’s best-known spaces, held daily from 10 am to 6 pm and booked 24 hours ahead.

Restaurants & bars

Dining spans Cantonese classics, contemporary continental cooking and a summer rooftop, with in-room dining around the clock.

  • Huang Ting — Cantonese and regional Chinese cooking, dim sum and Peking duck in a dining room modelled on a Beijing noble family’s courtyard home, with Qing-dynasty antiques
  • Huang Ting Tea Lounge — next to the restaurant: more than 20 teas, sweet dim sum and tea ceremonies led by a tea master
  • The Lobby — contemporary continental dining from breakfast until late, the classic Peninsula Afternoon Tea with live music and the plant-based Naturally Peninsula menu
  • Yun Summer Lounge — a summer rooftop on the 15th floor with sharing plates and craft cocktails, including a series inspired by the five elements
  • In-Room Dining — available 24 hours
Swimming

The 18-metre indoor pool on the third floor is heated to 28 °C all year and lined with loungers. It is open daily from 6 am to 10 pm; children under 12 swim with an adult.
