About this hotel
General information
Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing, Beijing is an intimate city hotel set on the upper floors of the WF Central complex, a few minutes from the Forbidden City. Several rooms, the restaurants and the bar terrace look across the rooftops of the Ming-dynasty palace, and the address itself is Wangfujing Street, in the heart of Beijing.
The interiors are designed more like private apartments than a conventional hotel: bright rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, large tables that work for both a laptop and a dinner, and marble bathrooms. Some rooms and suites have their own terraces over the inner courtyard, the largest opening onto a 300 m² garden terrace. Within the hotel are a spa with a skylit 25-metre pool, a Cantonese restaurant, a steakhouse, a terrace bar and a cake shop.
Location
The hotel occupies the upper floors of WF Central at 269 Wangfujing Street in Dongcheng, the heart of imperial Beijing, a few minutes from the Forbidden City. Beijing Capital International Airport is 30–40 minutes away by car and Beijing Daxing International Airport 35–50 minutes; private transfers can be arranged by the hotel with advance notice.
Spa
The Spa is set in a quiet inner courtyard, with four private spa suites, a sauna, steam room, experience shower and relaxation areas. Its signature feature is a warm quartz sand bed used for energy-balancing massages, alongside the Rasul Water Temple, a mosaic steam room where mineral mud is applied after a full-body scrub. Treatments include Chinese meridian massage, the Oriental Sense ritual with eaglewood oil set to the music of the ancient qin, open-ended Time Rituals, Clarins and Carita facials, and half-day wellness programmes that include a wellness drink. The spa is open from 10am to 10pm to guests aged 16 and over.
Sports & leisure
The fitness centre is open around the clock to hotel guests and staffed from 8am to 10pm. It has the latest equipment, including the SKILL RUN treadmill with built-in resistance training, plus personal training and small-group yoga and tai chi classes. The 25-metre pool and the spa are alongside, and every room has its own yoga mat.
Restaurants & bars
The restaurants and bar sit on the top floors, so most of them look out over the Forbidden City.
- Café Zi — contemporary Cantonese cooking and specialities from other Chinese regions, dim sum at lunch, seafood such as lobster steamed with Chinese wine or grouper with Sichuan pepper, and a long list of Chinese teas; breakfast and afternoon tea are served here too;
- Mandarin Grill — a modern take on the New York steakhouse with French touches, meat cooked over natural charcoal, more than a hundred Old and New World wines and Forbidden City views;
- MO Bar — a cocktail bar and late-night lounge with DJ sets and an open-air terrace facing the Forbidden City;
- Nomadic Yurt Soirée — lantern-lit dinners inside a yurt, with Mongolian cuisine given a contemporary treatment, in autumn and winter;
- The Library — a quiet lounge for tea, coffee, light snacks and sandwiches;
- The Mandarin Cake Shop — on the second floor of WF Central’s east wing, with pastries, cakes, chocolates, macarons, fresh bread and viennoiserie to take away;
- 24-hour in-room dining.
Swimming
The 25-metre indoor lap pool is lit by daylight through a glass skylight and lined with ergonomic, gently heated ceramic loungers. It is open from 8am to 10pm.
