About this hotel
General information
Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai rises from landscaped gardens on the east bank of the Huangpu River, with the riverside promenade at its feet and the Bund across the water. The glass tower holds 362 rooms and suites, while serviced apartments occupy a neighbouring building. Interiors pair clean contemporary lines with Oriental accents: cream and brown tones, natural wood, patterned carpets and floor-to-ceiling glass that fills the rooms with light.
Food is a large part of the draw. Yong Yi Ting serves the cuisine of Hangzhou, and Fifty 8° Grill takes its look from Shanghai's Art Deco years. The spa spreads over more than 2,400 m² with 13 private treatment suites and a thermal circuit, beside a 25-metre indoor pool. For weddings and business events there are the Grand Ballroom for 500 guests, the Oriental Ballroom for 250, five function rooms and a riverside garden that takes up to 2,000.
Location
The hotel stands at 111 Pudong Road (S) in the Lujiazui financial district, on the Huangpu riverfront. Shanghai IFC and the Shanghai World Financial Centre are a few minutes away, the Bund about ten, and two nearby metro stations connect Pudong with the city's main sights. Hongqiao International Airport is around 35 minutes away and Pudong International Airport around 45 minutes.
Spa
The Spa covers 2,415 m² and has 13 treatment suites for singles, couples and VIP groups, each with its own dressing room, bathroom and steam shower; four have a private vitality pool facing the garden, and the VIP suite takes parties of up to eight. Before treatments, guests settle into the thermal area with a crystal steam room, sauna, aroma and colour-therapy showers, heated tepidarium loungers and an ice fountain. The menu leans on traditional Chinese medicine — meridian massage, cupping, moxibustion, rituals for two with flower-infused baths — alongside infrared sessions, sound healing and Biologique Recherche facials, with half-day and full-day wellness programmes for those with more time.
Sports & leisure
The fitness centre is open around the clock to hotel guests, with Technogym cardio and strength equipment and a multi-purpose studio with a Kinesis wall. Personal training is available, as are classes in yoga, Pilates, dance, boxing and tai chi, plus singing-bowl sessions. A swimming instructor teaches in the 25-metre pool, and the hotel keeps its own jogging map. The concierge arranges one-hour private yacht cruises on the Huangpu for up to ten guests and four-to-five-hour architecture walks through an old quarter of European-style villas and plane-tree avenues.
For children
A children's pool sits beside the main pool, and the swimming instructor gives lessons for children. Fifty 8° Grill, Zest and in-room dining all have a children's menu.
Restaurants & bars
Six venues range from Chinese regional cooking to a French grill, and in-room dining runs 24 hours.
- Yong Yi Ting — Hangzhou cuisine: delicate dishes built on fresh seasonal produce with a modern touch, dim sum lunch sets and a tasting menu
- Fifty 8° Grill — modern grill with classic and contemporary French cooking; an Art Deco-inspired room and outdoor tables
- Zest — Asian and international all-day dining: breakfasts with dim sum and pastries, live cooking stations, a private room for 12
- Riviera Lounge — lobby lounge overlooking the promenade and tropical garden, light dishes and afternoon tea
- Qi Bar — lobby cocktail bar with DJs, Asian small plates and a terrace over the courtyard
- The Mandarin Cake Shop — patisserie with an open counter and Venetian glass-inspired décor: pastries, chocolates, breads and celebration cakes
Swimming
The spa level has a 25-metre indoor pool with a vitality pool and a children's pool alongside. The pool opens onto a deck where light spa cuisine is served, and hotel guests also have use of the separate men's and women's thermal areas.
