Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong

About this hotel

General information

Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong is the group’s flagship, set on the Central waterfront with outlooks over Victoria Harbour and Statue Square. It has welcomed guests since 1963 and remains one of the city’s defining addresses. Inside, Asian hospitality meets contemporary design: silk, hand-painted chinoiserie screens, polished stone and mother-of-pearl details give the interiors a character that is unmistakably Hong Kong, old and new at once.

Its restaurants and bars are the heart of the place: Cantonese Man Wah on the 25th floor, the Mandarin Grill + Bar, the mezzanine Clipper Lounge with a cheesecake made to the hotel’s original recipe, Captain’s Bar with live jazz, and the Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop. Younger guests have the Mini MO Club, and covered footbridges lead straight from the hotel into Central’s business and shopping districts.

Location

The hotel sits at the centre of Central, Hong Kong’s financial and cultural hub, looking out over Victoria Harbour. A network of covered footbridges links it to the district’s offices, shops and restaurants, with a metro station and the Star Ferry pier close by. Hong Kong International Airport is about 40 minutes by car; the Airport Express station is a short walk away, and the train between the airport and Central takes around 24 minutes.

Spa

Two grooming salons operate in the hotel. Mandarin Oriental Salon covers cutting, colouring and styling, manicures and pedicures, make-up, waxing and facials. The Mandarin Barber feels like a private gentlemen’s club, with interiors inspired by 1930s Shanghai Art Deco, and offers traditional shaves, haircuts, facials, massages and its signature Shanghainese pedicure.

Sports & leisure

The city begins at the door: covered walkways lead to Central’s main shopping and business addresses, and the nearby Star Ferry pier has boats crossing Victoria Harbour. Captain’s Bar has live jazz in the evenings, and among the family outings the hotel suggests are Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park.

For children

The Mini MO Club is open to young guests daily and free of charge, with a sensory treehouse, playrooms and a panda corner, plus popcorn screenings and kids’ workouts at weekends. The hotel also runs Little Fans Fitness sessions, creative workshops and mocktail classes for children, lends board games, and hands out a Mini MO passport for a restaurant treasure hunt that ends with chocolates at the Cake Shop. Luna, the hotel mascot, greets little guests, a Mini MO tent can be requested for the room, and Café Causette has a children’s menu with activity packs.

Restaurants & bars

The hotel’s restaurants and bars have long been part of everyday life in Central.

  • Man Wah — Cantonese cuisine on the 25th floor with harbour views: refined classics, rarely seen traditional dishes and dim sum at lunch
  • Mandarin Grill + Bar — a European grill room: oysters, caviar, charcoal-grilled beef, Japanese Wagyu, a cheese room and a dessert trolley, overlooking Statue Square
  • Clipper Lounge — the mezzanine restaurant for breakfast buffet, Sunday brunch, afternoon tea and dinner buffet, known for its Hainanese chicken rice and signature cheesecake
  • Café Causette — relaxed all-day dining around show kitchens framed in red Chinese lacquer, with Asian and international dishes such as wonton noodle soup
  • The Krug Room — tasting dinners in a room modelled on a train carriage, looking onto the kitchen, paired with Krug from Asia’s largest collection of the house’s champagne
  • a Japanese izakaya bar on the 25th floor — three bar areas, a drawing room, Japanese cooking and cocktails with harbour views
  • a British club-style restaurant and bar — British and British-Indian dishes in a room that keeps much of its original decor
  • Captain’s Bar — the hotel’s storied bar, serving draught beer in silver tankards, with a live jazz band in the evenings
  • Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop — breads, viennoiserie, pastries, chocolates and celebration cakes, including the signature cheesecake, with a small dining room

In-room dining is available around the clock.
