Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou

About this hotel

General information

Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou sits in Tianhe, the city's main business and shopping district, with direct access to the Taikoo Hui complex. It has 233 rooms and 30 suites, among the most generously sized in Guangzhou, plus 24 serviced apartments with two or three bedrooms. Interiors pair quiet contemporary elegance with traditional Chinese design: warm wood, soft colours, Asian artwork and floor-to-ceiling windows framing the skyline.

Dining is led by Jiang, one of the city's best-known Cantonese restaurants, alongside a Chaoshan bistro, a cocktail bar inspired by Lingnan architecture, a whisky bar and a cake shop. The spa has private treatment suites and a thermal area, and a heated 25-metre outdoor pool sits on the fourth floor. Events are held in a 750 m² ballroom, the 200 m² Tian He Room and several smaller meeting spaces.

Location

The hotel is at 389 Tianhe Road in Tianhe district, next to the Taikoo Hui mall. The Zhujiang New Town business quarter is 10–15 minutes away by car, the Guangzhou Opera House about 15 minutes, Canton Tower 15–20 minutes, Yuexiu Park 20–25 minutes and the Chen Clan Academy 25–30 minutes. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is around 50 minutes' drive depending on traffic, and the hotel arranges private transfers when asked in advance.

Spa

The Spa has six single treatment suites, each with a steam shower and changing area, and three couples' suites including a VIP suite. The thermal area brings together steam rooms, saunas, vitality pools and experience showers, and massage pavilions stand on the outdoor deck by the pool. A dedicated series draws on Guangzhou's reputation as the 'Flower City': baths and wraps with rose, osmanthus, chrysanthemum, kumquat, sugarcane and mulberry end with tuina massage and acupressure. The menu also covers Biologique Recherche and Valmont facials, treatments for men, multi-day programmes and treatments designed for expectant mothers.

Sports & leisure

The Technogym-equipped fitness centre is open around the clock to hotel guests, and coaches lead one-to-one yoga, Pilates and tai chi, HIIT, breath-led meditation, personal training and swimming lessons. The concierge arranges evening boat cruises, visits to wholesale markets, Cantonese cooking classes and cycling tours of the city. A four-hour dragon boat session with a professional coach at a rowing club ends with time to explore the Dragon Boat Museum, galleries and shops of the creative quarter next door.

For children

A children's pool beside the outdoor pool has a lifeguard on duty at all times. Jiang, TANG and in-room dining each offer a children's menu, and the concierge can book outings for children such as Wing Chun classes and fish-lantern making.

Restaurants & bars

The restaurants and bars focus on the cooking of southern China, with the Oriental Club on the 24th floor reserved for guests in club rooms.

  • Jiang — Cantonese cooking built on seasonal produce and classic technique, with a separate dim sum menu
  • TANG — a contemporary Chinese bistro with Chaoshan flavours: Cantonese congee, rice noodles and dim sum at breakfast, then seafood, braised dishes and food cooked over fire
  • LIÁNG — a cocktail bar named after the crossbeam of Lingnan architecture, with drinks built around the five elements using regional spirits and seasonal produce
  • The Loft — an intimate whisky and wine bar on the mezzanine with dark wood, classic cocktails, cigars and small plates
  • Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop — a pastry shop styled after Lingnan gardens, with French macarons, handmade chocolates, cakes and afternoon tea
Swimming

A heated 25-metre outdoor pool with a generous sun deck occupies the fourth floor, with a children's pool and lifeguard alongside.
