About this hotel
General information
Amanfayun occupies an old tea-farming village in a quiet wooded valley on the edge of Hangzhou, within the West Lake Scenic Area. The settlement dates back to the Tang dynasty and still keeps the layout of a traditional Chinese hamlet: stone paths link one shaded courtyard to the next, with tea terraces, bamboo groves and natural forest all around. An ancient pilgrimage route connecting seven Buddhist temples runs through the valley.
The resort has 46 dwellings under clay-tile roofs, some of the houses more than a century old. The restaurants and café line the Fayun Pathway, the spa sits in its own gardens, and at the heart of the village stand two 19th-century courtyard houses known as Fayun Place, home to a lounge, a library and a cigar room. Cultural sessions take place there every afternoon, and art exhibitions change each season.
Location
The resort lies within the West Lake Scenic Area, about 6 km from the lake itself and close to Lingyin Temple and Yongfu Temple. Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport is 32 km away, roughly a 50-minute drive. The concierge arranges private transfers from the airport or the railway station, as well as limousine trips to West Lake and Hangzhou's old silk streets.
Spa
Aman Spa is grounded in Traditional Chinese Medicine and spreads across five pavilions screened by bamboo, tea bushes and magnolia around the pool. The Bath House holds three private treatment rooms with wooden soaking tubs, steam rooms and rain showers; the two-storey Treatment House has three double and two single rooms. There is also a gym and a yoga and meditation studio near Yongfu Temple.
