About this hotel

General information

Amandayan crowns Lion Hill directly above the Old Town of Lijiang, a UNESCO-listed web of cobbled lanes and canals. From its terraces the view runs across the tiled rooftops of the old town to the snowy summit of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain on the horizon. The resort sits at around 2,400 m in Yunnan province.

The architecture takes its cue from the Nakhi people: timber houses under tiled roofs are gathered around quiet courtyards linked by stone paths, and the interiors bring in carved screens, lattice doors and Nakhi embroidery. Local culture shapes the stay, with cultural sessions scheduled daily, from Dongba calligraphy to tea tastings. The resort also hosts weddings and private celebrations.

Location

The resort sits on the hill above Lijiang Old Town, and a stone path from Wenchang Palace leads straight down into its lanes. Lijiang Sanyi International Airport is about 30 km away, roughly a 50-minute drive. The hotel arranges transfers from the airport and the railway station, as well as private drives to Tiger Leaping Gorge, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and the old towns of Baisha and Shuhe.

Spa

The Aman Spa draws on Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has five treatment rooms with steam showers, wooden bathtubs and relaxation areas, along with a steam room and hydrotherapy. Treatments include tui na, foot reflexology, an aromatherapy massage with heated bamboo, a herbal compress massage with ginger, turmeric and lemongrass, a soak in a round wooden tub infused with petals, tea leaves and botanicals after a steam bath, and seasonal baths and scrubs made with local ingredients.

Sports & leisure

There is a fully equipped gym and a yoga studio, and some sessions move outdoors.

  • tai chi with a master on a wooden deck among the trees, hatha, ashtanga and yin yoga, meditation, private training and Pilates
  • Dongba calligraphy and paper-making, tea ceremony and Pu’er tastings, fan painting, herbal sachet making, performances by traditional Nakhi ensembles
  • in summer, foraging for matsutake and porcini with a local guide, followed by a hot pot of the finds
  • the cable car up Jade Dragon Snow Mountain to 4,506 m and a walk to a viewpoint at 4,680 m
  • a hike along the high trail of Tiger Leaping Gorge, trips to the town of Shaxi and to Shangri-La
  • spring bike rides past blossom, rapeseed fields and Nakhi villages; Lijiang Snow Mountain Golf Club is about an hour’s drive away
Restaurants & bars

The kitchen leans on Yunnan produce, and most venues open onto terraces with views of the town and the mountains.

  • Man Yi Xuan — Yunnan cooking and a signature hot pot served in black clay; dining rooms and a terrace facing Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, plus four private rooms
  • Tea House — bistro-style lunches and dinners and afternoon tea with Chinese and Western blends, overlooking the old town
  • Tea House Bistro Bar — crafted cocktails, alcohol-free and tea-based drinks, a wine list and live music in the evening
