About this hotel
General information
Vik Chile crowns a hilltop in the middle of the Millahue valley, inside a private nature reserve of more than 4,400 hectares that also holds the Vik vineyards. A floating structural roof of titanium and bronze caps the building; inside are glass-walled spaces, a central patio with a flower-ringed Zen garden and a living room hung with paintings by Roberto Matta and a diptych from Anselm Kiefer’s series The Secret Life of Plants. The views run a full 360 degrees across vines, Andean foothills and the winery by Chilean architect Smiljan Radic, whose white stretched-fabric roof seems to hover above its underground halls.
The main building has 22 rooms, each conceived as a separate art piece; 15 glass Puro Vik bungalows stand in the park, and Vik Lodge, built by Radic as a private family house, adds four suites. Days revolve around wine and land: winery tastings, an organic kitchen garden, riding and cycling trails. Stays are offered on half board or as the Full Experience programme, which adds lunch.
Location
The hotel sits in Millahue (the name means “place of gold”) in the Cachapoal Valley near San Vicente de Tagua Tagua, O’Higgins region – the wine country of Chile’s Central Valley, at the foot of the Andes. Santiago’s international airport, with daily flights from around the world, is about two hours away by road; guest parking is free.
Spa
The Wine Spa takes a holistic approach, with therapies that combine aroma, texture and sound to restore body and mind. Its signature is a wine bath that draws on the estate’s seasonal harvest and its antioxidants; massages are also on the menu.
Sports & leisure
Most activities take place within the private park and are reserved for hotel guests:
- Vik winery tours and tastings, including a vertical tasting and a park trek that ends with glasses of La Piu Belle
- horseback rides through the vineyards with mountain views
- mountain biking, from easy rides to demanding trails
- hiking trails for birdwatching and native flora and fauna
- cooking classes in the organic garden, which grows more than 80 vegetable varieties, plus mixology and wine-and-chocolate pairing sessions
- stargazing sessions covering stars, planets and deep-sky objects
- vineyard picnics and a country barbecue at Vik Lodge
- an infinity pool and a gym
For children
Babysitting is available by the hour for children aged 2 to 12, at extra cost. The Gabler’s Grisaille Master Suite sleeps two to three, with a sofa bed and room for an extra bed.
Restaurants & bars
Cooking is built on produce from local growers and the estate’s own agroecological garden, paired with the house wines – Milla Cala, La Piu Belle and the flagship Vik:
- Milla Milla – glass-walled signature restaurant with a monumental wine cellar and views over the valley and the infinity pool; four-course dinners
- Pavilion – restaurant set among the vines with 360-degree mountain views, serving lunch tasting menus paired with Vik wines
- Vik Zero – four-course lunches, two of the courses vegetable-led from the garden
Swimming
An infinity pool looks out over the valley and is framed by the glass walls of Milla Milla; every Puro Vik bungalow has its own hot tub on the terrace.
Pets
Pets are allowed only with prior notice and the hotel’s express permission. Certified guide dogs may accompany visually impaired guests at all times.
