Oak Bay Beach Hotel

About this hotel

General information

Oak Bay Beach Hotel is a small seaside resort hotel in Oak Bay, the quiet waterfront district of Victoria on Vancouver Island, looking out over the Salish Sea. The story begins in 1927: the first building burned down in 1930 and was rebuilt as an exact replica, which for decades remained the place where local society came to meet. The present building keeps many architectural details and furnishings salvaged from the old hotel, so the feel of a classic coastal manor sits alongside contemporary comfort.

There are 100 rooms and suites with views of the sea, the marina or Oak Bay's leafy streets, while down at the water's edge are the Boathouse Spa and a heated mineral pool for guests aged 16 and over. Three restaurants, a lounge with live music, a Les Clefs d'Or concierge team, a health club and spaces for weddings and meetings complete the picture. The hotel holds Biosphere sustainability certification, and original work by Canadian artists hangs throughout.

Location

The hotel sits on Beach Drive in Oak Bay, on the shore of Vancouver Island, a short way from downtown Victoria, the capital of British Columbia. Victoria is reached via Victoria International Airport, by Harbour Air and Kenmore Air seaplanes or Helijet helicopters, and by BC Ferries, Clipper and Coho ferry services. The hotel does not run its own transfers; the concierge advises on the best way to arrive.

Spa

The Boathouse Spa is Victoria's only oceanfront spa. Its spacious treatment rooms, styled after the West Coast, host massages including registered massage therapy, body treatments and facials, with German skincare brand BABOR at the heart of the menu. Any treatment can be extended with two hours in the mineral pool, hot tubs and saunas. The spa welcomes guests aged 16 and over.

Sports & leisure

The ocean-view health club has treadmills, a stationary bike, an elliptical trainer, a leg press, a cable machine and free weights. The concierge team helps plan the days: shoreline walks, whale-watching trips, local parks and downtown Victoria, and the seals at nearby Oak Bay Marina. The hotel also hosts weddings, meetings and private events.

For children

Families are made welcome: children can follow an oceanside scavenger hunt around the grounds, and the restaurants offer family menus. Many rooms sleep four, and some adjoining rooms share a common entryway. The spa, mineral pool and pool deck are reserved for guests aged 16 and over, so the concierge suggests family-friendly outings nearby instead.

Restaurants & bars

Three restaurants, a lounge, a poolside bar and round-the-clock in-room dining:

  • FARO Handcrafted Pizza & Tasting Room — FARO Café in the morning for barista coffee and fresh pastries, then coastal Italian cooking by afternoon and evening: Neapolitan-style pizza from a Wood Stone oven, seasonal sharing plates and local and international wines; patio with fire features
  • The Snug — Victoria's first neighbourhood pub, dating back to 1954, with floor-to-ceiling ocean views, seasonal menus built on British Columbia produce, local beers on tap and a waterfront patio
  • Lobby Lounge — fireside seating, seasonal signature cocktails, small plates and live music from Wednesday to Sunday evenings
  • Afternoon Tea — served in the Lobby Lounge with sea views, built around local ingredients such as smoked salmon and island honey, with loose-leaf teas from the Denman Island Tea Company and a separate children's menu
  • Boathouse Kitchen & Bar — poolside bar open only to pool guests, serving cocktails, pastries, crab cakes and other light dishes
  • In-Room Dining — available 24 hours
Swimming

The heated outdoor mineral pool sits on the seafront, alongside hot tubs, fire pits, an indoor sauna and the Stargazing Sauna with its glass ceiling for watching the night sky. Guests are assigned loungers and given water and towel service, with drinks and snacks brought over from the Boathouse Kitchen & Bar. The pool deck is open daily to guests aged 16 and over.

Pets

Dogs are welcome, up to two per room and up to 34 kg each. Dog-friendly rooms have ocean views and walk-out access to the gardens, and dogs may join their owners on the outdoor patios of The Snug and FARO. Owners sign a dog policy agreement before arrival, and service dogs require written confirmation of certification in advance.
