Zannier Phum Baitang

About this hotel

General information

Zannier Phum Baitang sits on the quiet edge of Siem Reap, among rice paddies, sugar palms and some 8 hectares of tropical gardens. The resort is laid out like a traditional Khmer village: 45 timber villas raised on stilts in the manner of the farmhouses around it, their interiors furnished with antiques gathered from local craftspeople. Water buffalo work the surrounding fields, and the temples of Angkor are about twenty minutes away by road.

Life here gathers around a 50-metre infinity pool, a restaurant styled on a Khmer market overlooking the paddies, and a lounge set in a century-old stilted farmhouse where evenings end with sunset over the coconut palms. The Spa Temple takes its cues from the architecture of Angkor Wat. Children have a dedicated activity space, and a boutique stocks local artisan pieces alongside Zannier Hotels’ own designs. The resort holds Green Globe sustainability certification.

Location

The resort lies on the western outskirts of Siem Reap, away from the town centre, in countryside of rice fields and wooden stilt houses. Angkor Wat is roughly 20 minutes by car and the Tonlé Sap lake is a short trip away. Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport is about an 80-minute drive through the countryside.

Spa

Set in tropical gardens, the Spa Temple is modelled on the architecture of Angkor Wat. It has seven treatment rooms — two doubles and five singles — a steam room and sauna, a relaxation area and the Serenity Temple, a space kept for meditation. Treatments draw on traditional Khmer rituals, energy-balancing therapies and Asian healing traditions, using natural products made with organic local ingredients. A large outdoor pool lies among the greenery nearby. The resort can also arrange a Buddhist monk’s blessing — a short ceremony of chanting and a light sprinkling of water, or a longer traditional water blessing — held in the villa or at a local pagoda.

Sports & leisure

There is an indoor fitness room with cardio machines and free weights, yoga sessions, and bicycles for getting around the grounds. The cooking class starts with a trip to the local market and herb picking in the resort garden before the chef teaches three traditional Khmer dishes. Private guided outings include:

  • sunrise at Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and the Bayon at dusk, Ta Prohm with its tree-wrapped ruins, and a grand circuit ending at Pre Rup;
  • temples beyond the main park — Banteay Srei, the Roluos group, Phnom Kulen and its waterfall, Beng Mealea and Koh Ker;
  • a countryside drive by Land Rover Defender to families making rice wine and bamboo rice cakes and weaving baskets, or a similar route by electric scooter past the West Baray and village pagodas;
  • bike rides — 15 km through villages, rice fields and past a lotus lake to sunset at a monastery, or 10 km on forest trails between Angkor’s temples;
  • boat trips on the Tonlé Sap lake to its stilted villages and to the Prek Toal bird sanctuary, at its best from December to early February;
  • sunset among rice paddies and lotus farms, reached by tuk-tuk, with high tea or champagne;
  • a private Cambodian circus performance, a zipline through the Angkor jungle and a tethered balloon ride with views over Angkor Wat.
For children

Young Talent Space welcomes children aged 2 to 14 every day from 08:30 to 17:30, with supervised creative workshops, building toys, board and active games, books and shadow-puppet play. Older children can join kids’ yoga, a cooking class with the chef in a sala by the rice fields, Apsara dance and Bokator martial-arts lessons, a treasure hunt across the resort, and plant a tree of their own with the gardening team.

Restaurants & bars

Cooking relies on the resort’s organic gardens and rice from the neighbouring paddies, and a private chef can prepare a Khmer or Western menu in the villa.

  • Bay Phsar — evening restaurant styled on a traditional Cambodian market, overlooking the rice paddies; contemporary Khmer cooking with produce from the garden;
  • Hang Bay — fine dining with set menus built on old Khmer culinary traditions;
  • The Sunset Lounge — a century-old stilted farmhouse serving cocktails made with home-grown botanicals and syrups, fine wines and cigars at dusk;
  • Pool Bar — light meals, cocktails with local flavours and fresh juices from the garden’s fruit, beside the infinity pool.
Swimming

The 50-metre infinity pool lies amid gardens and rice paddies, with the Pool Bar alongside. A second large outdoor pool is set in greenery by the spa, and every Pool Villa has its own plunge pool in a private garden.
