About this hotel
General information
Six Senses Krabey Island occupies the whole of Koh Krabey, a 12-hectare private island off Cambodia's southern coast in the Gulf of Thailand. There are only 40 free-standing pool villas, each tucked into the tree canopy beneath a green living roof, with floor-to-ceiling glass and plenty of daylight. The resort was planned to disappear into the native vegetation, and the island now shelters silvered langurs, water monitors and more than 50 bird species, hornbills among them.
Khmer food and wellness set the tone. The 2,000 m² spa takes its cue from the sacred Kbal Spean river and works with local herbs and Kampot sea salt, while the kitchens draw on the resort's own organic farm on the mainland and the chef's island gardens. Earth Lab, the centre for environmental education and zero waste, shows how the resort upcycles its waste and bottles its own drinking water. Every guest has a personal GEM, or Guest Experience Maker, who shapes the days on the island.
Location
Koh Krabey lies 5 km off the shore of Ream National Park, on Cambodia's southern coast in Preah Sihanouk province. From Sihanoukville airport, guests are driven to the resort's own mainland jetty, where a speedboat makes the 10–15-minute crossing to the island. From Phnom Penh International Airport the motorway journey covers about 250 km and takes roughly three hours to the private welcome lounge on the mainland; transfers with an airport greeting are arranged on request.
Spa
The 2,000 m² Six Senses Spa is open daily from 9:00 to 21:00. It has seven treatment rooms plus an outdoor one, a sauna, steam room, herbal steam tent and hot tub, a nail bar, an Alchemy Bar for blending your own products, a meditation room and a wellness studio, as well as a rooftop yoga pavilion and an aerial yoga studio. Signature treatments include the Khmer Kru Thnam massage with poultices of fresh and dried herbs, the Khmer Salt and Herb Scrub with Kampot sea salt and coconut oil, the Soothe and Enrich antioxidant facial and Dreamcatcher with its sound-wave bath. For longer stays there are multi-day Fitness, Sleep, Detox, Discover Yoga and Weight Management programmes, preceded by a non-invasive screening of key biomarkers, and visiting practitioners, Ayurveda among their disciplines.
Sports & leisure
The resort's Experiences Center runs activities on the island and on the water:
- a fitness centre with personal trainers, an island fitness circuit, rooftop yoga and aerial yoga
- snorkelling around the island, kayaking up a mangrove river in Ream, boat trips to neighbouring islands and a castaway picnic on a deserted beach
- a guided walk through the island gardens and Earth Lab, with a chance of silvered langurs, water monitors and rare birds
- a night swim among glowing plankton and sundowners afloat
- Cinema Paradiso, an open-air cinema, a sky observatory for stargazing, an ocean boardwalk, a library and a boutique
- Khmer cooking classes, a visit to the resort's mainland farm with lunch cooked over an open fire, and a day on quiet country roads ending with a Khmer lunch
- a monk blessing at a pagoda in Ream
For children
The Nest kids' club runs the Grow With Six Senses programme: handmade arts and crafts, facial yoga, junior Zumba, make-your-own smoothies, homemade playdough, Zentangle doodle meditation, face painting and cupcake decorating. Babysitting is available in the villa or at the club from 9:00 until midnight, with at least 24 hours' notice.
Restaurants & bars
The island's cooking pairs traditional Khmer recipes with seasonal produce from the resort's farm and the surrounding sea:
- AHA — all-day restaurant above the pool and the sea, with light international and pan-Asian dishes
- Tree Restaurant — Khmer and Southeast Asian cooking with a modern touch, seafood its speciality
- Sunset Bar — split-level bar over the water with sofas and hammocks, for cocktails, aperitifs and nightcaps
- Double-Dip Hangout — ice-cream parlour and deli beside the main pool, with house-made gelato and sorbets and light bites
- In-Villa Dining — from breakfast until evening, drawing on every restaurant's menu; the private Sea Breeze dinner by the ocean is arranged separately
Swimming
The island has a private beach of fine white sand and a main horizon-edge pool, and every villa has a pool of its own. Surveys around the island have recorded more than 30 fish species and 11 coral genera, so snorkelling starts straight from the shore. The Beach Retreat has its own private beach cove.
