Rosewood Phnom Penh

About this hotel

General information

Rosewood Phnom Penh occupies the upper floors of Vattanac Capital Tower, in the heart of the capital’s business district. From this height the city spreads out below, the Mekong and Tonlé Sap rivers curve past, and the gilded spires of the Royal Palace catch the light in the distance. Interiors are calm and contemporary: travertine walls, rust-coloured accents and ikat rugs nod to Khmer heritage, and work by Cambodian artists hangs throughout.

The hotel runs its own art gallery, with exhibitions of contemporary Cambodian and regional art changing every few months. Eight restaurants and bars sit mostly on levels 35 to 38. The kitchens work to zero-waste principles, buy from local farmers and fishermen and harvest herbs from a hydroponic garden on level 9, while six private dining rooms, hung with Cambodian art and looking towards the Mekong, suit more intimate occasions.

Location

The tower stands in Daun Penh, Phnom Penh’s central business district, close to Wat Phnom. Phnom Penh International Airport is about 26 km away, roughly an hour by car, and the hotel arranges chauffeured transfers on request. For short hops within 2 km, guests ride free of charge in the hotel’s own remork, Cambodia’s traditional motorbike-drawn carriage.

Spa

Sense, A Rosewood Spa, on level 33, builds its treatments around traditional healing herbs and Khmer restorative techniques, with quiet and calm at the heart of the experience. Signatures include Lost Remedies, drawing on old Khmer healing and local ingredients; Light of the Seasons, a scrub and full-body massage inspired by the French countryside; and the Khmer Herbal Poultice, warmed herbal compresses with turmeric, local herbs and fleur de sel. Hands and feet are looked after at the Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio by Bastien Gonzalez.

Sports & leisure

The daylit gym, with views across the skyline, is open to guests around the clock, and personal training can be arranged; in the mornings an instructor leads runs along the riverside, past the Royal Palace. The hotel also offers:

  • a remork tour of the city’s landmark buildings and a self-guided treasure-hunt walk through lanes of temples and monuments
  • a morning monk blessing at Wat Ounalom, a 15th-century temple
  • a day on Koh Dach, the Silk Island, among quiet villages and silk-weaving workshops
  • a zero-waste cooking class at CUTS that starts in the hydroponic garden, and a Cambodian cooking class in a traditional wooden house after a market visit
  • a cocktail workshop using Cambodian spirits and garnishes grown on site
  • quad-bike and horse rides through the countryside beyond the city, golf and helicopter flights
For children

Rosewood Explorers is the children’s programme: young guests are looked after on a dedicated playground and join activities there, with special events and chef-made treats, and each receives an explorer’s set with a bag, a passport and a colouring book.

Most of the restaurants and bars are gathered on the tower’s top floors, and in-room dining runs around the clock.

  • Zhan Liang — Cantonese, Sichuan and northern Chinese cooking, a roasting station and a tea library (B1 of the tower’s mall)
