Raffles Hotel Le Royal

About this hotel

General information

Raffles Hotel Le Royal is one of Phnom Penh’s historic landmarks: a lotus-white, four-storey building on a leafy street in the heart of the capital. Its architecture weaves Art Deco lines and Khmer motifs into a French sense of elegance, and the interiors keep their high ceilings, timber floors and marble bathrooms while modern technology sits quietly in the background.

The hotel wraps around a courtyard, and three wings look onto tropical gardens of frangipani that frame two outdoor pools. There are 175 rooms and suites. Le Royal is known for its round-the-clock butler service, royal Khmer cooking served beneath a hand-painted ceiling, the storied Elephant Bar with one of Asia’s largest gin collections, and a daily afternoon tea.

Location

Central Phnom Penh, in the Daun Penh district: a short walk from Wat Phnom, about ten minutes from the riverfront, 800 m from the Old Market and 1 km from the Central Market, with the Royal Palace and the National Museum a quick tuk-tuk ride away. Phnom Penh International Airport is about an hour’s drive; the hotel arranges chauffeur-driven limousine transfers as well as car tours of the city.

Spa

Raffles Spa has five treatment rooms and separate male and female wet areas, each with a sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. The menu mixes traditional Khmer and modern therapies: a signature Khmer massage with firm pressure-point work, the Le Royal Spa Experience (a mineral salt scrub followed by Khmer massage), an anti-ageing facial and nourishing scrubs, with journeys tailored to each guest. The spa is open daily from 6am to 8pm.

Sports & leisure

Guests have two pools, a fitness centre with cardio and strength equipment (open 24 hours for hotel guests), one-to-one training, private yoga and complimentary group fitness classes. In-house diversions include a two-hour gin tasting at the Elephant Bar featuring its own gin, evening happy hour, afternoon tea and a Parisian champagne breakfast at Le Phnom 1929. The concierge sets up chauffeured outings around the city.

For children

Babysitting is available on request, and there is an outdoor playground for children.

Restaurants & bars

Three restaurants, including a terrace by the pool, and two bars:

  • Restaurant Le Royal — royal Khmer cuisine and modern Khmer gastronomy beneath a hand-painted ceiling, with signature tableside guéridon service
  • Le Phnom 1929 — French brasserie with an open kitchen, cocktails and the Around the World in 80 Wines programme
  • Elephant Bar — cocktail bar with one of Asia’s largest gin selections, including its own Elephant Bar Gin
  • Writers Bar — a quiet bar hung with old photographs of the hotel and the city, where traditional afternoon tea is served daily from 3pm to 5pm (also in the grand lobby)
  • Poolside Terrace — chilled wines, tropical cocktails, tapas and light dishes in the shade of frangipani trees

Room service is also available.

Swimming

Two outdoor pools sit in the tropical gardens: a 20-metre lap pool (open daily from 6am to 8pm) and a leisure pool, both lined with the sun loungers and parasols of the Poolside Terrace.
