Anantara Angkor Resort

About this hotel

General information

Anantara Angkor Resort is an intimate retreat of just 39 suites set around a garden courtyard and its pool, about ten minutes from the centre of Siem Reap and a quarter of an hour from the UNESCO-listed temple of Angkor Wat. Its architecture speaks a classic Khmer language: teak floors, silks, carved wooden screens and bas-reliefs that echo the carvings of the Angkor temples.

The small scale shapes the whole stay. Evenings on the grounds are quiet, and each guest is looked after by a personal butler who plans temple visits and trips into the countryside. Arrival comes with a limousine transfer, a cool drink, a traditional Khmer foot ritual and the gift of a krama scarf. At Chi the kitchen gives Khmer recipes a contemporary reading, while Anantara Spa draws its treatments from local healing traditions.

Location

The resort lies on National Road 6, roughly 10 minutes from central Siem Reap and about 15 minutes' drive from Angkor Wat. Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport is around 45 minutes away by car, and arriving guests are met by the resort's limousine. Tuk-tuks and private cars with drivers are the easiest way to get around town and the Angkor temples.

Spa

Anantara Spa blends Khmer healing practices with the brand's own approach to wellbeing. It has three spa suites, two rooms for Khmer massage, a dedicated reflexology room and a relaxation area, plus a sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi in the men's and women's changing rooms. Signature treatments include the oil-free traditional Khmer massage with its deep stretches, a Kampot sea-salt scrub mixed with house-made Khmer herbal powder, rosemary and eucalyptus, and a sports massage for muscles tired from days among the temples. The Heritage Ritual opens with a scrub of tamarind, rice, watermelon juice and honey, and longer stays can follow the three-day Refocus or five-day Rebalance programmes.

Sports & leisure

On site there is the saltwater courtyard pool, a compact gym with cardio and strength machines and free weights, and on-demand Technogym sessions – strength, cardio, yoga and meditation – to follow in the suite or out in the courtyard. Excursions are arranged by the personal butler; the resort's programme includes:

  • sunrise at Angkor Wat with a private guide
  • quieter outlying temples such as Banteay Srei, away from the main crowds
  • Beng Mealea, a 12th-century temple wrapped in tree roots
  • Kbal Spean, a carved riverbed 50 km north-east of Siem Reap
  • vintage-jeep drives along back roads past villages and rice fields, ending at sunset
  • Siem Reap's street food from the back of a Vespa
  • horse riding, sunset quad biking, countryside cycling and tuk-tuk rides
  • hot-air balloon flights
  • a zip-line course through the Angkor forest canopy
  • an evening boat trip through the flooded forest of Kompong Phluk on the Tonlé Sap floodplain
  • the Golden Silk Farm, where traditional golden-silk weaving is kept alive
  • a performance by Phare, the Cambodian contemporary circus
Restaurants & bars

Dining centres on progressive Khmer cooking, and dinner in the courtyard is often accompanied by apsara music and dance.

  • Chi – the signature restaurant, pairing Khmer flavours with Eastern and Western techniques; breakfast and an all-day menu
  • Road 6, Bar & Lounge – an evening bar with Angkor-inspired cocktails, Cambodian craft beers and light bites
  • Salt – drinks and gourmet bites by the pool during the day
  • Designer Dining – private dinners wherever guests choose, including a candlelit table among temple ruins in the jungle
  • Spice Spoons – hands-on Cambodian cooking classes
  • In-Suite Dining – available around the clock
Swimming

The saltwater pool sits at the heart of the resort, in the courtyard between the gardens and the suite wings, and is calm enough for early-morning laps. Terrace suites have decorative pools on their own decks, while the Anantara Explorer Suite, Henri Mouhot Two Bedroom Suite and Family Pool Suite each come with a private pool in an enclosed garden.

Pets

Dogs and cats are welcome in the Anantara Explorer Suite, Family Pool Suite and Henri Mouhot Two Bedroom Suite only, up to two per suite and with current vaccination certificates. A pet bed, bowls, a welcome kit and a local pet guide are provided. Pets may not enter the shared pool, gym or spa, and at Chi and Road 6 guests with pets are seated outdoors.
