About this hotel
General information
Rosewood Little Dix Bay sits on Virgin Gorda, on the shore of Little Dix Bay — a crescent of white sand sheltered by green mountain slopes inland and a coral reef offshore. The resort spreads its low cottages, suites and villas through gardens along the beach and up the hillsides, pairing a restrained modern style with simple natural materials. Hexagonal beach houses and stilted tree houses among the palms are long-standing signatures of the place, echoed in several of its suites.
There are 42 rooms and 43 suites and villas, and every guest is looked after by a personal butler. The resort's own organic farm supplies the kitchens with mangoes, cauliflower, lemongrass and okra, fish comes in daily from local fishermen and some of the wine is aged in the sea just offshore. The resort also supports sea-turtle conservation, and guests can join hatchling monitoring and turtle tagging with local conservationists.
Location
The resort lies on Virgin Gorda, on the shore of Little Dix Bay. From Virgin Gorda's airport (VIJ) the resort arranges a car transfer of about 5 minutes. At the international airport on Beef Island (EIS) guests are met after customs and taken a short way to the jetty, where the resort's boat makes the 20-minute crossing to its own dock. From the airport on St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands the journey by sea takes about an hour.
Spa
Sense, A Rosewood Spa stands on a cliff above the Caribbean Sea, looking out over the channel between Tortola and Virgin Gorda. It has eight individual treatment rooms and a couples' Cliff Spa Suite with a hot plunge pool, all with private terraces and windows onto the ocean; there are plunge pools on the hillside around the spa and an infinity pool beside it. Treatments draw on traditional Caribbean herbal remedies and island plants — the Caribbean Healing Ritual pairs a neem, tamarind and lemongrass wrap with body exfoliation, and scrubs use sea salt from Salt Island. Facials use EviDenS de Beauté, with Hydrafacial and NuFACE devices, and body treatments use Maison Caulieres; the menu also covers massages, treatments for two and multi-hour spa journeys.
Sports & leisure
The resort offers plenty to do on the water and ashore:
- The Tennis Center — six tennis courts, two of them floodlit for evening play, and two pickleball courts; courts, racquets and balls are complimentary, with private lessons and clinics led by the resident pro
- The Watersports Center — complimentary Hobie Cat sailing, kayaks, paddle boards and snorkelling gear; private sailing lessons, daily guided snorkelling and, several times a week, trips to The Baths on Virgin Gorda
- Sunset sails aboard the Pelican — up to 20 guests, aged 12 and over
- Out at sea — boat drops on one of Virgin Gorda's seven secluded beaches, full-day private sailing, boat rentals, yacht charters and deep-sea fishing
- Fitness centre and coached sessions — weight and circuit training, HIIT, stretching; hatha, vinyasa and ashtanga yoga, Pilates, yogalates and meditation, including on the hilltop yoga platform
- Hiking trails to panoramic lookouts, complimentary bicycles, island tours, jeep and Mini Moke rentals
- Guided tours of the organic farm, a monthly farmers' market, rum tastings and sea-turtle monitoring
For children
The Rosewood Explorers kids' club introduces children to Caribbean nature and culture through nature walks, shell collecting and gardening, crafts such as kite flying, tie-dye, painting and postcard making, and games from chess to beach olympics, bean-bag races and dancing. Kids Yoga and Kids Fun Fit classes are held for children aged 4–12, seasonal family activities are on offer and babysitting is available for a fee. The Pavilion Pool has a shallow pool for children.
Restaurants & bars
The resort has four restaurants and bars, all built around local produce, the daily catch and the harvest from its own farm:
- Pavilion — an open-air Caribbean steakhouse overlooking the bay: open-fire grilling, seafood and tableside finishes; generous breakfast buffets and dinners, with a cocktail trolley doing the rounds in the evening
- Sugar Mill — on the beach: Caribbean cooking, seafood, small plates and a raw bar, with a beach barbecue on Thursdays; it also hosts the Chef's Table tasting dinner, by reservation
- Reef House — at the water's edge, farm-to-table: contemporary takes on Caribbean flavours at lunch and dinner, plus seafood nights
- Rum Room — an open-air bar with a collection of rare and aged Caribbean rums, classic cocktails, live music and weekly tastings; afternoon tea with ocean views daily and sushi with sake on Sundays
During the day drinks, sandwiches and light bites are served on the beach and by the pools, and there is in-room dining, private dinners on the sand and in-villa dining.
Swimming
The resort's beach is a white-sand crescent of almost a kilometre, with a coral reef across the mouth of Little Dix Bay keeping the water calm for swimming and snorkelling. Loungers and palm-thatched shelters come with a call button, so drinks and light meals are brought straight to them. There are two pools: the free-form Pavilion Pool among palms and volcanic boulders just off the beach, and the tiered infinity pool at the clifftop spa, both open from sunrise to sunset. By boat, the resort takes guests to one of Virgin Gorda's seven secluded beaches, with towels, umbrellas and an optional picnic.
Pets
Cats and dogs up to 27 kg are welcome (some breed restrictions may apply), with a limit of two per room; a one-off cleaning fee per stay includes bowls, treats, a pet bed and toys. Pets may not be left alone in the room and are not allowed in the pool area or restaurants; the butler advises on beach rules.
