Palácio Tangará

About this hotel

General information

Palácio Tangará is an urban resort in São Paulo, wrapped in the tropical greenery of Burle Marx Park. Its story goes back to the late 1940s, when the industrialist Francisco Pignatari commissioned Oscar Niemeyer and Roberto Burle Marx to create a mansion with lavish gardens for his wife. The marriage ended and the house was later demolished, but the gardens lived on as a large public park. The hotel now revives the original idea of a grand retreat set within the city.

There are 141 spacious rooms, 59 of them suites, and every one looks out over the park. Interiors are by the Brazilian studios Bick Simonato and Anastassiadis, who gave each space its own concept: classic lines with contemporary accents and materials drawn from nature. Service follows European traditions while the mood is distinctly Brazilian, and nine event spaces include the Cristal Ballroom for up to 400 guests. It suits a romantic break as easily as a family stay.

Location

The hotel stands in the Panamby district of São Paulo, beside Burle Marx Park — around 1.5 million m² of natural parkland that is home to monkeys, toucans, parrots and woodpeckers. The city’s business, leisure and cultural districts are within easy reach; sights the hotel recommends include Lina Bo Bardi’s Glass House in Morumbi, Ibirapuera Park and MASP on Avenida Paulista. The concierge arranges airport transfers and other journeys.

Spa

Lancôme Absolue Spa has five treatment rooms, a dry sauna and a steam room, offering facial and body treatments and three styles of spa day. The spa also houses the US3 studio for cuts, styling, colour, manicures, pedicures and waxing. Spa guests also have the indoor and outdoor pools, the hot tub and the gym.

Sports & leisure

Leisure revolves around the pools, the gym and the park beyond the windows.

  • 24-hour gym with Technogym equipment
  • heated semi-Olympic indoor pool with hot tub, and a heated butterfly-shaped outdoor pool
  • tennis and beach tennis at the nearby BTG Arena, complimentary for guests at set hours
  • a concierge team for restaurant bookings, transport and ideas for exploring the city
For children

Guests of all ages are welcome. The Kids Club, stocked with toys and interactive games, is designed for children aged 4 and over; younger ones can join with a parent, and weekend activities with dedicated coordinators can be booked in advance. Families can choose rooms with two double beds, suites with a sofa bed or connecting rooms, and cots are available on request.

Restaurants & bars

Dining ranges from haute cuisine to relaxed meals with park views.

  • Tangará Jean-Georges — Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s only restaurant in South America: French technique, Asian influences and Brazilian produce, à la carte or a six-course tasting menu, with a Chef’s Table in a private room, the 14-seat Ruinart Room and a cellar of more than 280 wines; breakfast is served here too
  • Pateo do Palácio — indoor dining room and garden terrace overlooking the park and pool: Mediterranean-inspired cooking and pizzas, live music, afternoon tea by the piano, Sunday brunch and a Saturday feijoada with jazz; dogs are welcome
  • Pool Bar — for hotel guests only: wines, fresh juices, cocktails and all-day dishes, with a barbecue on Saturdays
  • a cocktail bar in the lobby with a cosmopolitan feel
Swimming

There are two heated pools. The art deco outdoor pool is shaped like a butterfly, with the Pool Bar alongside. The semi-Olympic indoor pool is lit by natural daylight and has a hot tub next to it.

Pets

Dogs of up to 25 kg stay in ground-floor rooms with smooth floors and generous terraces: one dog in the Prestige Room Terrace, up to two in the Superior Suite Terrace and Deluxe Suite.
