About this hotel
General information
Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro occupies a prime stretch of the Ipanema seafront and was Philippe Starck’s first project in Brazil. The building and its interiors pay tribute to Brazilian architecture and design of the 1950s and 1960s, and to the golden years of Bossa Nova.
There are 89 rooms and suites in five categories. The rooftop infinity pool is the signature feature, looking over the beach towards Arpoador, the Two Brothers peaks and Corcovado, framed by Starck’s ear-shaped mirrors. Guests also have the Italian restaurant Gero Rio, Fasano Caffè, a rooftop pool bar, Spa Fasano and a fitness centre, while the concierge arranges beach sessions and outings around the city.
Location
The hotel stands at Avenida Vieira Souto 80, directly on the seafront of Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro. From the roof and the ocean-facing rooms the view runs along the coast from the Arpoador rocks to the Two Brothers mountain, with Corcovado in the distance.
Spa
Spa Fasano is on the first floor and is open every day. Its focus is holistic wellbeing, with relaxing massages, beauty treatments and therapies such as a chakra-alignment ritual that uses essential oils to ease the muscles and stimulate circulation.
Sports & leisure
The rooftop has an infinity pool overlooking Ipanema, and the ground-floor fitness centre is fitted with up-to-date equipment, with personal trainers on hand. The hotel also arranges a range of experiences on the water and in the city:
- surf lessons at Arpoador, stand-up paddleboarding, Hawaiian outrigger canoeing and beach tennis
- sunrise yoga on the rooftop
- bike rides along the waterfront
- private yacht trips to the Cagarras Islands
- private helicopter flights over Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain
- a Bossa Nova walking tour, a tour of Santa Teresa and a visit to the Maracanã stadium
For children
Children up to 12 can stay in their parents’ room, and connecting rooms make the hotel practical for families. Several of the hotel’s experiences, such as surfing, paddleboarding and bike rides, suit families too.
Restaurants & bars
Dining centres on Italian cooking and relaxed spaces looking out to the ocean.
- Gero Rio — classic Italian cuisine (risottos, pasta, meat and fish) under executive chef Luigi Moressa, in a room by architect Miguel Pinto Guimarães with red-brick walls, copper-toned columns and an open-air balcony
- Fasano Caffè — a 90-seat café with indoor and outdoor tables, serving breakfast as a buffet and à la carte
- Pool Bar — on the eighth-floor rooftop, for hotel guests only; light dishes, fresh fruit juices and house cocktails
- Baretto-Londra — bar that also hosts private parties and celebrations
Swimming
The hotel faces the sands of Ipanema Beach directly. The beach service lends guests surfboards and frescobol paddles free of charge, and the concierge can organise bike hire, surf lessons, beach volleyball and sessions with a personal trainer. For swimming on site there is the rooftop infinity pool.
