About this hotel
General information
Hotel das Cataratas is the only hotel inside the Brazilian section of Iguaçu National Park, on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Site where the Iguaçu River drops into a gorge in 275 separate falls. Its position within the park lets guests reach the falls before the public arrives in the morning and after it leaves in the evening.
The 176 rooms and suites are spread across the Main Building and the Garden and Forest wings, with Portuguese colonial décor and polished hardwood floors paired with modern comforts. The hotel borders one of the largest remaining tracts of South America’s Atlantic Forest; its environmental work draws on Guaraní traditions, carries EarthCheck certification and supports Projeto Onças do Iguaçu, a non-profit protecting the region’s wild jaguars.
Location
The hotel stands within Iguaçu National Park on the Brazilian side of the falls, outside Foz do Iguaçu in the state of Paraná. Foz do Iguaçu International Airport (IGU) is about 15 km away, Argentina’s Cataratas del Iguazú airport (IGR) around an hour’s drive, and flights from São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro take about two hours. Private cars may not enter the park, so self-drivers leave their vehicle at the car park by the gate and take the hotel’s regular shuttle; airport transfers arranged by the hotel are permitted to drive in.
Spa
Cataratas Spa takes its philosophy from the Guaraní view of all living things as one connected world. It has four treatment rooms and a couples’ suite, a relaxation room, sauna, steam room and a beauty salon. Four signature Jasy rituals follow the phases of the moon and use natural ingredients from the Brazilian wilderness, alongside massages such as Iguassu Stones and body and facial treatments.
Sports & leisure
The tennis courts are open daily until late evening and the gym around the clock, with outdoor training kit and yoga mats for sessions in the open air. Complimentary activities through the week include yoga and Ka’aru Ju yoga, a 90-minute morning hike through the forest to the falls, and hotel bikes for exploring independently. Guided experiences include:
- First Light – a 2 km dawn walk as the sun first reaches the falls
- full moon walks, forest bathing, birdwatching and hiking trails, among them the Poço Preto Trail
- Cataratas Sky – stargazing after dark with a guide and telescope, plus astrophotography
- Feel the Energy of the Falls – breathing and bioenergetic exercises beside the water with a wellness specialist
- helicopter flights over the falls, from 10 minutes
- a guided day on the Argentine side of the falls
- the Bird Park, and ceramics and painting sessions with artists
For children
The Kids Club takes children aged 4–10 every day, with programmes that shift with the season and holidays: treasure hunts, garden games and obstacle courses, campfires with marshmallows and stories, puppet shows retelling the legend of the falls and outdoor painting. Families can choose two- and three-bedroom suites, and several suites connect to Junior Suites; children are not permitted in the Junior Pool Suites.
Restaurants & bars
There are two restaurants and two bars, with cachaça and Brazilian wine tastings, picnics, private gazebo dinners and sunset drinks in the tower adding to the programme.
- Restaurant Y – inventive Brazilian cooking built on regional produce and inspired by the waters of Iguaçu, with a wine list focused on Brazil’s wine regions
- Y Terrace – Y’s open-air terrace, looking out over the falls
- Ipê Restaurant – relaxed Brazilian dishes and barbecue beside the pool
- Bar Tarobá – cocktails and light bites in a boldly decorated bar
Swimming
The hotel has a heated outdoor pool, with Ipê Restaurant alongside. Each Junior Pool Suite has its own garden and plunge pool.
