About this hotel
General information
Wilderness King’s Pool sits in the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve in northern Botswana, shaded by ebony and jackalberry trees on an oxbow lagoon fed by the backflow of the Linyanti River, so there is water all year. Its suites of wood, canvas and thatch are linked by raised walkways, and the interiors pair copper tones with touches of teal. The whole camp runs on solar power.
The Linyanti is one of the region’s great elephant corridors: in the dry season, from June to October, herds gather at the water and often wander between the suites. Lion, leopard, African wild dog, spotted hyena, buffalo, lechwe, sable, hippo and crocodile are all part of the picture, and some 400 bird species have been recorded. Meals, local drinks, laundry and two activities a day are included, and nearly all of the team are Botswana citizens.
Location
The camp lies within the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, a private Wilderness concession of about 126,000 ha that forms part of the Kavango–Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area. Guests travel via Maun, where a Wilderness Air charter flight takes them on to camp.
Sports & leisure
Activities follow the season and the movement of wildlife:
- day and night game drives in open vehicles;
- guided walks and tracking lessons;
- boat trips on the lagoon and the Linyanti River;
- high tea or sundowners aboard the camp’s barge;
- a sunken, eye-level hide beside a waterhole, where lunch is sometimes served;
- helicopter flights over the floodplains;
- stargazing under the Linyanti’s exceptionally dark skies.
Between outings there is the pool, a library lounge for reading, and the Safari Boutique, which stocks Linyanti keepsakes.
Restaurants & bars
Camp life centres on a generous main area with a deck made for watching the lagoon, together with the library lounge. Menus draw on local produce from farmers who share their land with Botswana’s wildlife; lunch is sometimes taken in the waterhole hide, and high tea or sundowners on the barge out on the lagoon.
Swimming
The camp has a swimming pool with loungers and umbrellas, looking out towards the river.
Rooms
There are eight thatched suites, one of them a two-bedroom family suite. Each stands on an expansive raised deck at the water’s edge, facing the lagoon.
A separate lounge and bedroom, an outdoor shower, a large deck overlooking the lagoon, and Wi-Fi.
Suite
A canvas-walled suite under thatch with a separate lounge and bedroom, an outdoor shower and a large raised deck at the water’s edge facing the lagoon.
