About this hotel
General information
Atix is a 53-room design hotel in Calacoto, in the Zona Sur of La Paz, and a member of Design Hotels. The building takes the form of a parallelogram suggested by the surrounding landscape, so its bay windows look out over the Andean valley from every side. The façade is clad in Bolivian wood and in Comanche stone, the same stone used to pave the streets of La Paz in the first half of the 20th century. In Quechua, the name means “one who thrives”.
The hotel is conceived as a gallery to live in: contemporary Bolivian art and fine-art photography of the country’s remote landscapes, from the Uyuni salt flat to Lake Titicaca, hang in the corridors, rooms and public spaces, and the interiors are built from local materials and handcrafted pieces. Alongside the Proyecto Nativa restaurant and the seventh-floor 591 Bar with its infinity pool, there is a wellness centre and four meeting and private-event spaces ranging from 45 to 180 m².
Location
The hotel stands on Calle 16 in Calacoto, a Zona Sur district of restaurants, cafés and small boutiques set apart from the bustle of the historic centre. The green line of the Mi Teleférico cable car runs through the area, and the nearest airport is El Alto International Airport.
Spa
The Atix Wellness Center occupies the top floor, with wet and dry saunas, a gym and a room for massages and body treatments, plus a salon. Massages and other therapies are arranged on request, and booking them before arrival is advised. The saunas are open to guests around the clock.
Sports & leisure
The fitness studio on the top floor is open 24 hours. The infinity pool and Jacuzzi sit on the seventh floor within the 591 Bar and are open daily from 9:00 to 20:00; use of the pool, Jacuzzi, saunas and gym is included in the stay.
For children
Babysitting can be arranged on request.
Restaurants & bars
Proyecto Nativa is devoted to Bolivian cooking, pairing local ingredients with contemporary technique in dishes such as ceviche in a Nikkei-style tiger’s milk or beef sirloin marinated in Andean pesto. Up on the seventh-floor rooftop, 591 Bar serves signature cocktails inspired by Bolivia’s flavours and places, with views across the city; it opens Monday to Wednesday from 18:00 to 23:00 and Thursday to Saturday until midnight, and is closed on Sundays. The hotel also has a small market selling organic Bolivian produce, and a room-service menu is available in the rooms.
Swimming
There is no beach. Swimming is in the infinity pool, with a Jacuzzi alongside, on the seventh floor within the 591 Bar, open daily from 9:00 to 20:00.
