About this hotel
General information
Six Senses Paro is built into old stone ruins on a slope above the Paro valley, at 2,675 m, directly above Ta Dzong, the National Museum. The design makes the site’s past part of the stay, while the large suite windows face the valley and the mountains. Interiors are calm: neutral tones, simple natural-timber furniture, bukhari wood-burning stoves and vegetable-dyed, antique-washed Himalayan rugs.
Next door lie the ruins of Chubjakha Dzong, where candlelit dinners are cooked over an open fire. The lodge makes an easy base for a pre-dawn start up to Taktsang Lhakhang, the Tiger’s Nest, and the valley’s trails suit every level of fitness. On site are the Jangkho restaurant, the Living Room bar, a spa with an indoor pool and outdoor sauna, a library, a boutique and extensive organic gardens. Paro can be booked on its own or as the closing stop of a journey through Bhutan’s valleys with the other Six Senses lodges.
Location
The lodge sits on the side of the Paro valley above Ta Dzong and the Paro Chhu river. Paro airport is close by: the drive along the river takes around 30 minutes, a guide meets guests on arrival, and helicopter charters from the airport can be arranged. Throughout the stay the lodge provides a private guide with a vehicle.
Spa
Six Senses Spa Paro is open daily from 9 am to 9 pm. It has four treatment rooms, a yoga studio, a private meditation cave, a fitness centre, an indoor pool, an outdoor sauna with a cold dip, a herb garden and an Alchemy Bar. The menu takes in a scrub for which guests blend their own Bhutanese herbs with essential oils and Himalayan salts, the Tension Soother back, neck and shoulder massage with acupressure, the purifying Wild Kashmir facial with wild turmeric, saffron and Kashmir lavender, and the Memories of Bhutan ritual: quiet meditation in a private room followed by a full-body massage with warm oils. Single or couples’ massages can also be taken in the villa.

Restaurants & bars
Much of what reaches the table is grown in the lodge’s own organic gardens, where guests can also join the team to cook a Himalayan meal:
- Jangkho — an all-day restaurant modelled on Bhutan’s stone dzongs, with brick walls, timber floors and ceilings and sweeping views over the Paro valley
- Living Room — a warm lounge bar for cocktails and snacks at the end of a day in the hills
- Stone Ruins Medieval Dinner — a candlelit feast under the stars in the ruins of Chubjakha Dzong, with dishes from the grill, Bhutanese and international flavours, crafted cocktails and masked dances in the tsechu tradition; guests dress in traditional Bhutanese clothing for the evening
- Destination dining — a Champagne breakfast, a picnic or an evening barbecue in the villa or the grounds, with a private chef and waiter
- Farmhouse dinner — a home-style Bhutanese meal at a local farmhouse
