About this hotel
General information
Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa is a cottage resort on a slender private peninsula near Somerset, at the western tip of Bermuda. More than eighty rooms, suites and cottages are scattered through some 9 hectares of gardens between Long Bay, where the sun sets, and Mangrove Bay, where it rises. The cottages follow traditional Bermudian lines, while the interiors mix bespoke furniture, floral prints, bold colour and contemporary work by Bermudian artists. The Main House remains the resort’s centre, with breakfast overlooking the bay, a daily afternoon tea and a gallery of local and Caribbean art.
Four private beaches and two coves, an infinity-edge pool above Mangrove Bay, the Ocean Spa and an on-site watersports centre make it easy to stay on the peninsula for days. Many guests come back year after year, and those who have returned twenty, fifty or even a hundred times have their names added to the resort’s own board. Guests of all ages are welcome, although the Ocean Spa with its Aquarian Baths and fitness centre, and Turtle Cove beach, are for guests aged 13 and over, with spa treatments from 16. There are no meal plans: every restaurant is à la carte.
Location
The resort occupies a private peninsula of about 9 hectares in Sandys Parish, by Somerset Village, between Long Bay and Mangrove Bay. Bermuda’s international airport is about 50 minutes away by car and Hamilton 30 minutes; the Royal Naval Dockyard, with a ferry that reaches the capital in half an hour, is a 10-minute drive, and the nearest bus stop a 10-minute walk. On request the hotel arranges one of its preferred taxi drivers to meet guests in the arrivals hall (at least 24 hours’ notice, up to six passengers); shared shuttles can also be pre-booked with local transport companies.
Spa
The Ocean Spa uses Caudalie products in all its treatments and VOYA for its seaweed rituals, with therapists qualified to international spa-therapist standards. The menu runs from Ayurvedic energy massage, Swedish, deep-tissue and hot-stone massage to reflexology, seaweed leaf wraps, Caudalie and VOYA facials, prenatal massage, manicures and pedicures, with a treatment room for couples. The Aquarian Baths bring together a heated indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, aroma steam room, cooling mist room and rainfall shower, next to the fitness centre. The Ocean Spa and Aquarian Baths welcome guests aged 13 and over; treatments are for guests aged 16 and over.
Sports & leisure
H2O Sports operates on site, renting kayaks, paddleboards, sailboats and motorboats, running day trips on the water and taking guests snorkelling over coral reefs and shipwrecks just offshore. There are tennis, pickleball and basketball courts (equipment for hire), a croquet lawn, a putting green and a fitness centre with a Peloton bike, WaterRower rowing machines and Precor treadmills, and every room has a yoga mat. The concierge books tee times at the island’s golf courses, including Port Royal, a 10-minute drive away.
Oleander Cycles, on the resort grounds, rents scooters, e-bikes and electric cars — an easy way to reach the Royal Naval Dockyard (10 minutes), Gibbs Hill Lighthouse and Horseshoe Bay beach (15 minutes each), or to ride along the Bermuda Railway Trail. The Main House holds a gallery of Bermudian and Caribbean art, and the resort hosts weddings and meetings.
Restaurants & bars
Every restaurant and bar looks out over the water, towards the sunrise over Mangrove Bay or the sunset over Long Bay; room service covers breakfast, lunch and dinner:
- Sunken Harbor Club — a dockside tavern and tropical cocktail bar, the Bermuda outpost of a New York cocktail bar, serving dinners built on local produce with Caribbean and Portuguese influences
- Breezes — an open-air restaurant on the shore of Long Bay for lunch, dinner and cocktails at the water’s edge
- Pastel — a restaurant and bar beside the infinity-edge pool: ceviche, salads, sandwiches, morning coffee and pastries, and light cocktails with views of Mangrove Bay
- Shoreline — à la carte breakfast on the lower level of the Main House and its broad terrace over Mangrove Bay, plus Monday barbecue evenings from May to October
- The Parlour — daily afternoon tea in the Main House, among works by Bermudian and Caribbean artists
- Private Dining — candlelit dinners for two or more in secluded corners of the resort, among them a rocky point and a private jetty (May to October)
Swimming
The resort has four private beaches and two coves. The longest beach runs along Long Bay and is the place for sunsets, with drinks and bites brought over from Breezes; Morning Beach lies just below the pool deck on Mangrove Bay, two stairways lead down to quiet Pegem Beach, and the sheltered, calm Turtle Cove is reserved for guests aged 13 and over. Loungers, umbrellas, towels and water hammocks are provided, and sea turtles are often seen close to shore. The outdoor infinity-edge pool above Mangrove Bay is lined with loungers, daybeds and cabanas; the heated indoor pool in the Aquarian Baths is for guests aged 13 and over during the day and open to all ages in the evening.
