General information
La Butte aux Bois is a country estate in the woods of Lanaken, in the east of Flanders, right on the edge of Hoge Kempen National Park. At its heart is a 1920s manor house set in a romantic park of ponds, tree-lined avenues and gazebos. Two further buildings complete the estate: the Villa, reached along a covered walkway through the park, and the contemporary La Forêt wing, linked to the spa by a glass gallery.
There are 62 rooms and suites in all. Interiors move between French country style, contemporary touches and bold colour, and rare geological pieces are displayed throughout the house — natural history is the thread that runs through the whole estate. The hotel is best known for its fine-dining restaurant La Source and a large spa built around a Shiseido Institute. Ten function rooms, around 1,000 m² in total, host private celebrations and business meetings.
Location
The estate stands on Paalsteenlaan in Lanaken, in the province of Limburg, on the very edge of Hoge Kempen National Park and close to the Dutch border; Maastricht makes an easy day out. The nearest railway stations are Maastricht, Genk, Hasselt and Liège-Guillemins. Parking is free for hotel guests.
Spa
The 1,350 m² spa occupies its own wing. It houses a Shiseido Institute with eight treatment rooms, plus a duo pedicure cabin and a duo treatment room with a view. The thermal area has an indoor pool, a panoramic sauna, a hammam, infrared loungers for two, sensory showers, relaxation rooms and an outdoor jacuzzi on a covered terrace. Signature treatments include a quartz stamp massage, a honey body ritual and a mud treatment, with skincare by Shiseido, mesoestetic and Universkin. Hotel guests can use the spa from 07:00 to 22:00; children are welcome before 10:00 and after 17:00.
Sports & leisure
Hoge Kempen National Park begins at the estate's doorstep, so walking, running and cycling come naturally. Waymarked walking routes of 4.3 to 15.4 km and a set of themed regional cycle routes start nearby.

Restaurants & bars
The manor house holds two restaurants and a bar, and breakfast moves out onto the terrace in the warm season.

Swimming
There is no sea nearby; swimming is in the spa's indoor pool, with an outdoor jacuzzi on the covered terrace.
Pets
Dogs are welcome at the Le Ciel bistro, indoors and on the terrace, for breakfast and lunch between 07:00 and 18:00.
Rooms
The 62 rooms and suites are spread across three buildings: the Manoir with reception and restaurants, the quiet Villa reached by a covered walkway, and the La Forêt wing overlooking the national park. The most unusual are the Moonlight tower suite and the suites with private terraces and their own sauna.
Air conditioning, flat-screen TV, Nespresso coffee and Café Couture tea, fresh fruit and spring water, bathrobes and slippers, Wi-Fi, and free use of the spa and gym.
Manoir Comfort
A compact room in the manor house in a calm contemporary style, with a queen-size bed and shower; the sloping ceiling makes it less suited to guests over 1.80 m. Sleeps one or two, with lift access.
Villa
A room on the Villa's lower ground floor with daylight and park views, a king-size bed, bath and shower. Sleeps two; lift access and a covered walkway to the manor.
Villa Luxe Balcony
A Villa room with a balcony overlooking the surrounding park, a king-size bed, bath and shower. Sleeps two.
Villa Deluxe
A room on the ground or first floor of the Villa with park views, a king-size bed, bath and shower. Sleeps two; lift access.
Manoir Deluxe
A manor-house room in elegant French country style with a king-size bed (Hästens beds in some rooms), bath, shower and a TV in the bathroom. Sleeps two.
La Forêt Expérience
A first-floor room in the La Forêt wing in natural tones, with a centrally placed king-size bed, national park views and a large walk-in shower with two rain heads. Sleeps three; lift access.

A manor-house junior suite in modern natural tones with cosmic accents, a private terrace, king-size bed, whirlpool bath and rain shower. Sleeps two.
Grand Suite Garden View
A large first-floor manor suite with a richly coloured interior and garden views, bath, shower and a TV in the bathroom. Sleeps five; reached by stairs.
Luna Aurea Wellness Suite
A manor-house suite with a private terrace over a moon-themed landscape, its own sauna, whirlpool bath, double rain shower, fully equipped kitchen and a sunken lounge. TVs in bedroom and lounge; sleeps four.
