Sandy Lane

About this hotel

General information

Sandy Lane stands on the Platinum Coast of Barbados, in the parish of St James, among old mahogany trees on the grounds of a former sugar plantation. Its neo-Palladian buildings of white coral stone face a crescent of white coral sand about 300 m (1,000 ft) long, and the marble lobby frames the Caribbean Sea beyond.

The resort has 113 rooms and suites and a private five-bedroom villa. It is best known for its golf — 45 holes on three courses, among them the Tom Fazio-designed Green Monkey — and for The Spa at Sandy Lane, which covers 47,000 sq ft (about 4,400 m²). Tennis and padel courts, a water sports centre and a children’s club round out the leisure facilities. Sandy Lane is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and holds Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond ratings.

Location

Sandy Lane lies in the parish of St James, on the Platinum Coast, the Caribbean shore of western Barbados. Grantley Adams International Airport is about 30 minutes away by car, and the hotel arranges the transfer.

Spa

The Spa at Sandy Lane covers 47,000 sq ft (about 4,400 m²) and has 11 treatment suites, each with its own shower and bathroom and, depending on the suite, a garden, a private hydro pool or a skylight. The facilities include a panoramic sauna, a steam room, a hydrotherapy pool, a cold plunge pool, cryotherapy, Crystal Cold Rooms, contrast showers, a Rhassoul clay ritual, and rooms for relaxation and meditation.

The treatment menu draws on Barbadian, Caribbean, North American, European and Asian Ayurvedic traditions. Products come from Aromatherapy Associates, which created the Sunrise and Sunset oils for the spa, as well as Margy’s Monte Carlo and 111SKIN, while manicures and pedicures use Margaret Dabbs. Couples’ programmes end in a private hydro pool for two, and an epigenetic assessment with a personalised longevity plan is also offered. The spa and gym admit guests aged 16 and over.
