Fowl Cay Resort

About this hotel

General information

Fowl Cay Resort occupies an entire private cay in the wild heart of the Exuma chain. Only six villas line its shore, each facing the ocean, and guests move between them, the palm-fringed beaches and the tennis court at the island’s centre in their own golf carts. The mood is relaxed – shorts, cover-ups and flip-flops all day, with a collared shirt asked of men only at dinner in the Hill House.

The resort is all-inclusive in the fullest sense. The rate covers the villa and its kitchen, stocked before arrival and restocked as needed; all meals and drinks at the Hill House, premium-brand spirits included; a powerboat with unlimited fuel for every villa; fishing and water-sports gear; daily housekeeping; Wi-Fi across the island; and the transfer from Staniel Cay airport. Mobile coverage is limited, which makes the island an easy place to switch off.

Location

Fowl Cay lies among the Exuma Cays in the Bahamas, close to Staniel Cay, surrounded by calm turquoise water that is easy to navigate by small boat. Most guests fly into the Staniel Cay airstrip from Nassau or from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport; the transfer from Staniel Cay airport to the island is included, and the resort helps with travel arrangements.

Spa

There is no spa on the island, but massages can be arranged on request as an extra outside the all-inclusive plan.

Sports & leisure

Life on Fowl Cay revolves around the boat and the water:

  • a 17- or 18-foot Angler powerboat for every villa with unlimited fuel; staff give a full orientation on day one, along with charts, compasses and ideas on where to go
  • two-person kayaks, Hobie Cat sailboats and stand-up paddle boards
  • masks, snorkels and fins in every size from age three to adult, life jackets and floats, plus knee boards, wake boards, water skis and giant tubes for the day
  • rods, reels, line and lures for fishing from the villa’s own boat; bonefishing guides and local area guides at extra cost
  • gourmet picnics packed for days out on the boat or the beach
  • a tennis court in the middle of the island with racquets and balls, bocce and horseshoes, and an exercise room, pool table, darts and board games at the Hill House
Restaurants & bars

The Hill House, open seven days a week, is the island’s restaurant and bar and the place where guests from all six villas meet. Breakfast comes to the villa – fresh fruit and warm pastries each morning, alongside a kitchen already stocked for breakfasts, lunches and snacks. Lunch is served at the Hill House, followed in the evening by cocktail hour and a four-course dinner; dinner can also be served privately in the villa, and picnics are prepared for time at sea. The bar is open around the clock to island guests, with a bartender on duty in the evening, and dietary requirements are accommodated.

Swimming

Palm-fringed beaches with calm turquoise water ring the island, and most villas step straight down to the sea. The Hill House has a freshwater pool overlooking the passing boats, while Birdcage Villa has its own freshwater pool and steps down to a private beach and small dock.

Rooms

Six oceanfront villas are spread around the island’s edge – one with a single bedroom, three with two bedrooms and two with three – each with its own terrace and view of the water.

Every villa has air conditioning and ceiling fans, a fully equipped and stocked kitchen, a deck or patio, Wi-Fi, satellite TV, an internet-enabled computer, a golf cart, its own powerboat and daily housekeeping.
