About this hotel
General information
Thurnher’s Alpenhof is a small ski boutique hotel in Zürs, at 1,717 m, now run by A-ROSA. It sits directly by the pistes and lifts of the Lech Zürs ski area, so skiing starts more or less at the front door. The hotel opens for the winter season, when the Arlberg is at its most snow-sure — from Christmas well into spring.
No two of its 41 rooms and suites are alike: some are done in a cosy chalet idiom, others in a quieter classic style, with antiques set against modern art throughout. Evenings revolve around a restaurant focused on regional cooking, a piano bar with an open fire and the Mediterranean-inspired SPA-ROSA. A house ski guide is available to guests free of charge all season. The hotel also lends itself to private occasions — executive meetings, small conferences and celebrations.
Location
The hotel stands in the heart of Zürs on the Arlberg, beside the Hexenbodenbahn and Zürsersee lifts. By car, the route follows the A14 motorway to the Bludenz exit, then the B197/198 to Zürs. The nearest railway stations are Langen am Arlberg and St. Anton, where the hotel bus collects guests; transfers can also be arranged from Zurich, Innsbruck, Munich and Vienna airports, by car or helicopter.
Spa
SPA-ROSA is a modern, Mediterranean-inspired wellness area with a heated, spring-fed indoor pool (around 30 °C) with counter-current, a plunge pool fed by the hotel’s own spring, Finnish and bio saunas, a steam room, a relaxation room with a choice of teas, and a fitness room. Treatments use vegan, grape-based VINOBLE Cosmetics made in Austria — among them the A-ROSA Signature Ritual, VINOBLE rituals, vinotherapy and grape-seed oil massages. The sauna area can be booked for private use and is open to guests aged 16 and over.
Sports & leisure
Throughout the winter season guests can join daily outings with the hotel’s own ski guide, Roman Dornauer, at no charge — a real help in Ski Arlberg, with more than 300 km of pistes and over 80 lifts. The fitness room hosts stretching, aqua aerobics and ski-conditioning classes. Away from the slopes, Lech Zürs offers snowshoe walks, ice skating, tobogganing in Oberlech and winter hiking.
For children
During the main school holidays, free childcare for ages 2–14 runs daily from 16:00 to 21:00 with a changing programme, and children have their own evening meals. The Freiraum playroom is set up for painting, reading, films on a big screen and Wii. Children of all ages may use the indoor pool; there is no separate children’s pool. Family rooms have sofa beds, cots are available on request, and the hotel can book places for 2–6-year-olds at the children’s ski club in Zürs or Lech.
Restaurants & bars
Thurnher’s Restaurant serves light cooking built on Arlberg specialities and modern takes on classic dishes — in the evening either a multi-course menu or à la carte, blending Austrian tradition with international accents, and in the morning a buffet of regional produce. A fondue night and a traditional Heurigen evening feature each week, desserts are finished at the table, and the wine list runs deep. Next door, Thurnher’s Lounge & Bar is a piano bar with an open fire, serving lunchtime snacks, an afternoon Jause and afternoon tea by day and classic and contemporary cocktails at night. Room service is available around the clock.
Skiing
This is a true ski-in, ski-out address: the hotel sits right on the slopes next to the Hexenbodenbahn and Zürsersee lifts of the Lech Zürs area. Lift passes are issued at reception, rental equipment is fitted in Zürs and delivered to each guest’s own locker, and places in group ski lessons can be arranged.
Pets
Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement, for a surcharge and in selected rooms only. They are not permitted in the restaurants or the spa and must be kept on a lead outside the room.
Rooms
There are 14 rooms and 27 suites, each with its own personality — chalet-style or classically elegant, in warm colours and fine materials, many with large panoramic windows onto the mountains. A hundred metres away, by the Zürsersee lift, Thurnher’s Residences add five serviced apartments of 54–190 m² with one to five bedrooms, which can also be taken as an entire chalet.
Every room has a minibar, a coffee machine, free Wi-Fi, a TV, a telephone, a safe, bathrobes, a hairdryer and toiletries.
