Tennerhof

About this hotel

General information

Tennerhof, a Relais & Châteaux member, began life in 1679 as a farmhouse in Kitzbühel. Its position made it the town’s storm lookout: when a thunderstorm approached, the farmers hung a white cloth from the roof, and the church bell-ringer answered with the great bell to drive the clouds away — a custom still kept today. In 1923 the von Pasquali family bought the property and opened the hotel they run to this day. Its Tyrolean buildings, with timber balconies, turrets and climbing greenery, stand in a large garden of lawns, alpine flowers and old trees.

Each room is decorated individually, with natural wood, hand-painted and carved furniture, and antiques from the owners’ family collection. The restaurant is the heart of the house, and evening dress is customary at dinner. Weddings can be arranged, honeymooners have dedicated programmes, and there is parking and a laundry and dry-cleaning service.

Location

The hotel is in the ski resort of Kitzbühel in western Austria, 80 km from Salzburg International Airport and 100 km from Innsbruck Airport.

Spa

The wellness area includes a heated outdoor pool in the garden with a lawn for sunbathing, an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, Kneipp hydrotherapy and a jacuzzi that operates in winter, along with a massage room and manicure and pedicure rooms.

Sports & leisure

The Kitzbühel area offers cross-country skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, mountaineering, hiking, mountain biking, rafting, kayaking, paragliding, Nordic walking and tennis. Four golf courses lie near the hotel, with 19 more within an hour and a half’s drive.

Restaurants & bars

Holder of a Michelin star and Gault&Millau distinctions, the hotel restaurant is counted among Austria’s five finest, with further awards for its tea collection and cheese selection. The kitchen cooks classic Austrian dishes from organic produce: meat and dairy come from neighbouring farms, and more than twenty kinds of vegetables, fruit, herbs and berries are grown in the hotel garden. The wine list runs to over 200 labels from around the world, with a wide choice of spirits and cigars. In warmer months, tables are set on the terrace overlooking the mountains.

Skiing

The Kitzbühel ski area has 55 lifts and 148 km of runs for every level, plus a ski school.
