St. Anton am Arlberg

Schwarzer Adler Hotel

About this hotel

General information

Schwarzer Adler is one of the first hotels in the Austrian Alps. The house was built by the Knights Hospitaller in 1570; the stables where coach horses were changed once stood opposite, and stagecoach passengers stayed in the mansion itself. Over four centuries it passed through many hands, each generation updating it to the taste of the day, yet the walls still hold their old traditions. Rooms are individually designed, pairing lovingly restored 16th-century frescoes with contemporary furniture, soft carpets, painted panels and distinctive lighting.

Tradition carries through to the kitchen, which cooks with produce from the hotel’s own farm, while the wine cellar holds the best bottles from nearby vineyards. Alongside the heritage come a modern spa, two restaurants and a bar. Set in the middle of St. Anton’s pedestrian zone close to the lifts, the hotel is ideally placed for skiers.

Location

The hotel stands in the very heart of St. Anton am Arlberg, in the pedestrian zone, right by the lifts.

Spa

The spa offers Kneipp hydrotherapy pools, saunas, steam baths, relaxation areas, a solarium and massage rooms.

Sports & leisure

Winter brings skiing and other snow sports, mountaineering and paragliding; summer, mountain biking, hiking, rafting, tennis and golf.

Restaurants & bars

Two restaurants and a bar balance local flavour with international cooking.

  • Hotel restaurant — local and international cuisine with well-chosen wines
  • Bar — exotic cocktails, rare wines and whisky in a relaxed atmosphere
  • Aquila Café and Restaurant — across the street, local and Asian cuisine
Skiing

The lift stations are close by, and after a day on the slopes guests can ski right back to the hotel.
