Post Lech

About this hotel

General information

Post Lech is a five-star hotel in the centre of Lech, owned by the Moosbrugger family for more than eighty years and a member of Relais & Châteaux since 1976. The story began in 1937, when ski instructor Erich Moosbrugger and his wife Irma bought a small village inn with 20 beds, a farm and a general store. Queen Juliana of the Netherlands first came for a winter holiday in 1960, and as Lech rose to become one of the leading Alpine resorts, the inn grew with it.

The sturdy, thick-walled farmhouse, painted pale pink since 1972, has kept the soul of an inn: wood-panelled Stuben, painted furniture, antiques and hunting trophies. A new wing with the spa opened in 2010, bringing the total to 46 rooms and suites, no two alike. Behind the hotel lies Ebra Park, a 6,000 m² Alpine garden, while the FeinPostLaden delicatessen revives the old village-store tradition.

Location

The hotel is in the centre of Lech am Arlberg, in Vorarlberg, close to the borders with Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The nearest railway station is Langen am Arlberg (17 km), where the hotel will collect guests by arrangement; Innsbruck Airport is 110 km away, Zurich 200 km (about two hours), St. Gallen-Altenrhein 98 km and Friedrichshafen 120 km, with transfers to all of them. In winter the Lech–Warth road is closed and the approach is via Zürs.

Spa

Post Beauty & Spa occupies the newer wing, with a sauna looking out onto nature, a brine steam bath with an outdoor grotto, relaxation rooms with Arolla pine loungers and a Technogym fitness studio. Face and body treatments use Swiss Cellap Laboratoire and Alpienne products, and the massage menu includes classic massage, lymphatic drainage and La Stone. The in-house perfumery stocks Alpienne, Cellcosmet, Chanel, Guerlain and La Prairie.

Sports & leisure
  • A 15-metre outdoor pool heated all year (30 °C in winter), facing the Omeshorn
  • Movement Studio with a weekly programme of yoga, Pilates and athletic movement, plus private sessions
  • Ten running and Nordic walking trails around the hotel
  • Weekly hikes with the hotel’s guide to its Formarin hunting lodge; the Arlberg Alpin weekly programme is free for guests
  • Golf: the hotel is a founding member of Lech Golf Club, whose nine-hole course in the Zug valley is the highest in Austria; Bludenz-Braz is 35 km away
  • In winter, around 40 km of prepared winter walking trails around Lech and Zürs, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, skating, curling and tobogganing
For children

Children have their own floor with an indoor pool with a slide and a baby pool, a playroom with PlayStation Move and children’s films, and in summer a large basket swing and a ground-level trampoline in the garden. In the village, the Kids Active programme offers all-day supervision in summer, and the Lech-Zürs-Oberlech Kids’ Club teaches skiing in winter.

Restaurants & bars

The kitchen is led by executive chef Michael Volcanjsek, and each dining room has its own character:

  • Postblick — panoramic restaurant for half-board and à la carte guests, contemporary with traditional touches
  • Jägerstube — creative cooking in a hunting-lodge setting, open in winter
  • Emostube — classic Austrian cuisine in a room named after the artist Emo Henrich, with fondue chinoise by reservation in winter
  • Kutscherstube — the hotel’s relaxed inn, serving Austrian dishes
  • Terrace — Austrian and international dishes, homemade cakes and strudels
  • Bemelmans Bar — named after the writer Ludwig Bemelmans; single malts, cocktails, wines and champagne from après-ski until midnight

Afternoon tea is served in the Hubertushalle or out in Ebra Park.

Lech is part of the extensive Arlberg ski area. The concierge handles ski-school bookings, and the hotel’s partner Arlberg Alpin provides certified private ski guides.
