About this hotel
General information
The story here goes back to 1516, when Emperor Maximilian I founded a monastery in Seefeld. For two centuries Augustinian monks hosted pilgrims and travellers with produce from their own farm and brewery. After the monastery was secularised in 1809 the property was bought at auction, and it has remained with the Seyrling family ever since; the sixth generation now runs the hotel, with eight family members involved day to day.
Today Klosterbräu is a five-star hotel of 90 rooms and suites, where medieval vaults, more than 500 candles lit every day and real wood fires sit alongside interiors reworked over recent years. Behind the house lies a private 150,000 m² nature park, with a vegetarian farm and petting zoo close by. The hotel holds the Austrian Ecolabel (Österreichisches Umweltzeichen) and is working towards climate neutrality.
Location
The hotel lies in a traffic-calmed part of Seefeld, on Tyrol’s sunny high plateau at around 1,200 metres. The railway station is a three-minute walk away, Innsbruck Airport roughly 25 minutes by car, and Munich and Salzburg airports about two and two and a half hours respectively. Airport pick-ups can be arranged by the hotel.
Spa
The 3,500 m² spa occupies the historic fabric of the former monastery. Its seven themed saunas include the hand-carved Heisszeit, a Finnish sauna, a gentle bread-baking sauna, an organic outdoor sauna, a steam room, infrared cabins and a family sauna where swimwear is worn, complemented by an ice fountain, relaxation rooms, the Garden of Eden and the Vital Bistro. Most saunas and several pools are reserved for guests aged 16 and over. Facials and body treatments use Augustinus Bader and Team Dr. Joseph, alongside massages, a private spa and a day-spa offer. The house signature is a beer fountain in the middle of the sauna area.
Sports & leisure
The hotel’s own guides run more than 50 indoor and outdoor activities through the year: hikes up the Gschwandtkopf, Brunschkopf and Seefelder Spitze, rides across a plateau with over 570 km of trails, and in winter torchlit walks, snowshoeing, curling, tobogganing and igloo building. There are hotel bikes, e-bike rental and coaching, a fitness room, yoga and Pilates classes, EMS training and osteopathy. Seefeld has a 27-hole golf course and padel courts, with more than 70 further holes within 45 minutes.
For children
The kids’ club, with a playroom built around a knight’s castle and slide, runs until 10 pm six or seven days a week depending on the season, with regular adventure programmes. Teenagers have their own room with pinball, billiards and a PlayStation, and a large playground sits within sight of the outdoor pools. Two minutes’ walk through the garden, the Sigis Sauhaufen farm keeps dwarf cattle, goats, donkeys, a pony and mini pigs. Baby equipment, prams, child-carrier backpacks and toboggans can be borrowed, babysitting is available on request, and reception books children’s ski lessons.
Restaurants & bars
The kitchen works with regional, seasonal produce, some of it from the hotel’s own farm, and stays are on a gourmet half-board basis.
- Gewölbesaal — the vaulted hall, with a breakfast buffet and, in the evening, a six-course choice menu, buffets and theme nights
- Ritter Oswald Stube — a snug Tyrolean parlour of wooden niches beside the vaulted hall
- Klosterhof — the historic monastery courtyard under a glass roof, for breakfast and dinner year-round
- Bräukeller Grill & Veggie — a steakhouse with its own brewery and vegetarian dishes beneath old vaults
- Klosterkeller — a candlelit wine cellar over 500 years old, used for gourmet dinners and tastings
- Romeo & Juliet Balcony — a private dinner for two above the courtyard
- Lobby bar and Maximilian Lounge — signature drinks, plus a piano bar with live music
- Kännchen — the nightclub that was a celebrity show stage from the 1960s to the 1990s, now a party venue for up to 200 guests
- Reitherjoch Alm — the family’s mountain hut at 1,500 metres in the Rosshütte ski area, serving Tyrolean dishes
Swimming
The spa has five water areas: a 17 × 6 m outdoor pool heated to 30 °C all year, a panoramic outdoor whirlpool facing the Tyrolean Alps, a 15 × 5.5 m indoor pool, an indoor whirlpool set against historic walls, a separate adults-only whirlpool and a cold plunge pool.
Skiing
Klosterbräu is a ski-in hotel: from the top of the Gschwandtkopf a run over the Pfarrhügel leads straight back to the door. The Seefeld area offers 36 km of Alpine pistes and 260 km of cross-country trails. There is a ski cellar, and reception books equipment and lessons.
Pets
Dogs are welcome. Rooms with direct garden access suit owners particularly well, and a 150,000 m² park directly behind the hotel lets dogs run off the lead. Bowls and a bed are ready in the room, there is a dedicated dog menu, and smaller dogs may join their owners in the main restaurant and at Bräukeller Grill & Veggie.
