Kaiserhof Kitzbühel

About this hotel

General information

Kaiserhof Kitzbühel is a four-star superior hotel at the foot of the Hahnenkamm, a few metres from the Streif downhill. The house began life around the turn of the last century as a private villa, later became the small Pension Montana, and in 1979 passed to the Richard family, who made it a four-star hotel two years later. It took its present name in 2005, when Christian Hofer took over, renovated it throughout and grew it from 37 to 51 rooms; a further 22 followed in 2012 after the neighbouring plot was acquired.

Interiors follow the Tyrolean country-house idiom, with Swiss stone pine furniture, carpets, hand-picked fabrics and a pillow menu. The hotel works as a sporting base for skiers, cyclists and golfers, balanced by a panoramic pool, saunas and an evening tasting menu. Two meeting rooms, Streif and Asten, cover 200 m² and hold up to 150 people. Reception is staffed around the clock, and the sister property is the Kaiserhof in Vienna.

Location

The hotel stands on Hahnenkammstraße in Kitzbühel, Tyrol, in a quiet yet central spot: the Hahnenkammbahn cable car is 50 m away, the town centre a five-minute walk and Kitzbühel Hahnenkamm station three minutes on foot. Salzburg, Innsbruck and Munich are the nearest airports, linked by shuttle, train or hire car, and the hotel can arrange an airport taxi on request. Guests arriving by car have a paid underground garage with charging points for electric vehicles.

Spa

The wellness area centres on a panoramic indoor pool filled with Grander water, with the red Hahnenkamm gondolas gliding past outside. Alongside are a Finnish sauna (90 °C), a gentler bio sauna built from reclaimed wood (65 °C), a steam bath scented with a different fragrance each day, an infrared cabin and a relaxation room with heated waterbeds. Massages are available at extra cost.

Sports & leisure

A compact fitness room has a multi-station and a treadmill. In summer more than 1,000 km of hiking trails and some 800 km of mountain-bike routes begin at the door, and the town itself has four golf courses (Eichenheim, Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith, Kaps and Red Bull Golf), with more than a dozen others nearby. Further options include climbing and via ferratas on the Kitzbüheler Horn, tandem paragliding, tennis at Austria’s largest outdoor clay-court venue, riding, and fishing and boating on Lake Schwarzsee. Winter adds over 70 km of cross-country trails, five toboggan runs (one floodlit), ski touring, freeriding and ice rinks.

For children

There is a playroom for children. Junior suites and suites sleep up to four with a sofa bed, and most categories can take an extra bed and a cot.

Restaurants & bars

The kitchen reinterprets Austrian classics around regional, seasonal produce.

  • Kaiserhof Restaurant and Zirbenstube — chef Ernst Köstenbaumer’s evening tasting menu (88 points and two forks in the Falstaff guide), daily 6–9 pm; in the morning, a buffet of home-made dishes and local producers’ goods
  • Bar & Lobby — drinks, snacks and wines from 11 am to midnight, with food served 12 noon–9 pm
  • Sun terrace — breakfast, dinner and cocktails outdoors in mild weather

Vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free dishes are prepared on request, and early starters can order a breakfast to take away.

Skiing

The hotel sits right by the piste: the Hahnenkammbahn valley station is 50 m away, and guests can ski back to the door. The Kitzbühel ski area offers 188 km of groomed slopes, the Streif among them. Lift passes are sold at reception, boots are warmed before the first run, ski hire and servicing are a few steps away, the ski school is next door, nearby practice lifts are free to use, and a ski guide can be arranged.

Pets

Pets are not permitted in the Double Room Allergy-Friendly category.
