Velden am Wörthersee

Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden

About this hotel

General information

Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden is a five-star hotel on the western shore of the Wörthersee, on the sunny southern side of the Alps. A turreted historic castle set in a park with a rose garden sits alongside a modern wing, and the pairing of old grandeur with contemporary architecture gives the place its particular character. The castle is also known as the filming location of “Ein Schloss am Wörthersee”.

There are 105 rooms and suites. The hotel is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and Jeunes Restaurateurs, its concierges belong to Les Clefs d’Or, and an Experience Concierge team designs tailored outings around Carinthia. Five event rooms include two combinable ballrooms totalling 410 m² with a lake-view terrace; weddings are held here, and the entire castle can be booked for exclusive use.

Location

The hotel stands in Velden am Wörthersee, Carinthia, between Klagenfurt and Villach. Klagenfurt Airport is 20 km away, Ljubljana 80 km and Venice 250 km. Velden station is 1.2 km off, with direct trains from Vienna (about 4 hours) and Salzburg (about 2 hours 45 minutes); by road Salzburg is around 2 hours and Vienna and Munich around 3.5 hours. Transfers from airports and the station can be arranged, including by Rolls-Royce, and there are helicopter landing sites nearby.

Spa

The 3,600 m² Acquapura Lake SPA sits right on the water. It has three indoor and outdoor pools, a panoramic garden, herbal and Finnish saunas, a steam bath and a gemstone steam bath, a garden sauna with a picture window over the lake, a whirlpool, an infrared cabin, a relaxation room with water loungers and a spa cinema, private spa suites with their own sauna, and a spa bistro. Sauna masters lead infusion rituals, and a broad treatment menu is offered.

Restaurants & bars

The kitchen, led by executive chef Daniel Gadanecz, draws on Carinthian and Alpe-Adria produce.

Swimming

From May to mid-September the Beach Club, reserved for hotel guests, offers direct access to the lake, a heated outdoor pool, loungers and parasols, cabanas for more privacy and SUP hire. The Acquapura Lake SPA pools are open year-round.

Skiing

More than 400 slopes across ski areas in three countries lie within a short drive, and the hotel arranges transfers as well as transport and storage of equipment. Winter also brings skating on the Weissensee, the world’s largest prepared natural ice rink at up to 25 km long, and Bavarian curling in Köstenberg.

Pets

Dogs are welcome for a supplement and may join their owners in the lobby, Seespitz Restaurant & Living, Salons Restaurant & Atelier, Schlossbar Charly Walker and at breakfast (at the rear of the ballroom or on its terrace). They are not allowed in the spa or the Beach Club; other pets are accepted on request.
