Das Central Sölden

About this hotel

General information

Das Central is a five-star hotel in the heart of Sölden, run by the Falkner family and open to guests since 1969. Over more than five decades the building has changed its face several times, yet the Tyrolean hospitality at its core has stayed, now matched with a contemporary alpine style. Its 125 rooms and suites, spread across the main building and an annex, range in mood from clean-lined minimalism to wood-rich Tyrolean warmth.

Two things define the house. One is the Summit Spa, 2,000 m² on the upper floors, where an infinity pool looks over the rooftops of Sölden to the three-thousand-metre peaks of the Ötztal. The other is the kitchen: the Ötztaler Stube holds four Gault&Millau toques and a Michelin star, and the cellar keeps around 30,000 bottles. The Michelin Guide has also given the hotel itself a Key. The same team runs the ice Q restaurant on the summit of the Gaislachkogl.

Location

The hotel sits in a quiet yet central part of Sölden in Tyrol’s Ötztal valley, around 500 m from the Giggijoch and Gaislachkogl lift stations, with shops and boutiques close by. Innsbruck Airport is 84 km away, about an hour by car, while Munich and Zurich are roughly three hours’ drive. The nearest railway stations are Ötztal (34 km) and Innsbruck (84 km); the hotel arranges station and airport transfers on request.

Spa

The Summit Spa covers 2,000 m² over the fourth and fifth floors. It centres on a 17-metre infinity pool raised 17 metres above the ground, with an outdoor whirlpool and sun terrace, a bio panorama sauna, a Finnish event sauna with infusion rituals, a brine steam bath, a cold plunge pool and light-filled relaxation rooms with panoramic windows. There are twelve saunas in all: a separate textile-free area for guests aged 14 and over adds Finnish saunas, a tepidarium, an infrared cabin, a bio sauna, a natural brine grotto and an ice grotto. There is also an indoor pool with a winter garden, a cryotherapy chamber reaching −110 °C, and Summit Beauty & Massage, with six treatment rooms using natural Alpienne cosmetics from the Pitztal valley and grape-based Vinoble Cosmetics.

Sports & leisure
  • Summit Cardio Fitness on the fifth floor with Technogym equipment and a terrace, plus a 120 m² Technogym strength studio
  • A studio for personal training, yoga and back fitness, with a weekly activity programme
  • Weekly guided hikes and bike tours with local guides; alpaca treks
  • In winter, guided ski safaris, Nordic walks, ski warm-ups and sports massages
  • The Ötztal Inside Summer Card for summer guests, covering the cable cars and many attractions in the valley, plus entry to the Water Area at AREA 47
  • Lockable bike boxes with e-bike charging
For children

The Kids Club offers free childcare from the age of three with a weekly programme, and its play area stays open around the clock, complete with an iWall virtual ski simulator. Families also have two-bedroom family suites, connecting rooms, a children’s menu, complimentary cots and a Swiss pine panorama sauna suited to families, and the hotel can book children into local ski schools.

Restaurants & bars

The kitchen builds on produce from around Sölden, such as local venison and fish from Längenfeld, with an international outlook; the cellar holds around 30,000 bottles and a list of more than 600 wines, with a focus on Austria.

  • Feinspitz — the main restaurant, for breakfast buffets and five-course dinners, with a gala night each week
  • Ötztaler Stube — gourmet à la carte dining in a fifty-year-old pine-panelled parlour
  • Summit Bistro & Bar — aperitifs, cocktails and light dishes on the fifth floor
  • Marend Stube — a relaxed room serving the bistro menu from 11 am to 11 pm
  • Fondue in the wine cellar — several evenings a week in winter
  • Bar and cigar lounge
  • On the mountain: ice Q on the Gaislachkogl summit (3,048 m), FALCON at the Gaislachkogl mid-station and Wirtshaus am Giggijoch
Skiing

The Giggijoch and Gaislachkogl lifts are about 500 m away, and a free hotel shuttle runs to both daily in winter from 8 am to 5 pm. Sölden’s ski area has 145 km of pistes reaching 3,340 m, including the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers, where the season runs from October to May. The ski room gives each room its own locker with boot heating, and the hotel arranges instructors and equipment hire.

Pets

Dogs are welcome if announced at the time of booking, larger dogs on request. They are not allowed in the restaurants, except the Marend Stube, or in the spa.
