The Langham, Sydney

About this hotel

General information

The Langham, Sydney sits in Millers Point, a quiet historic neighbourhood equidistant from The Rocks, Barangaroo and Walsh Bay. The hotel occupies an Irish Georgian-style building recalling a graceful period of Australian architecture, and faces the Sydney Observatory of 1858, which lends its name to both the signature suite and the bar.

Rooms are dressed in soft neutral tones, with handcrafted furniture and marble bathrooms, and look out over the Western Harbour, Observatory Hill or the city. Below ground lies The Day Spa by Chuan and a pool beneath a painted ceiling of the southern night sky, while the hotel’s own tennis court is just across the street. Afternoon tea in the Langham tradition, cocktails at the Observatory Bar and British cooking at The James complete a distinctly classic stay.

Location

On Kent Street in Millers Point, equidistant from The Rocks, Barangaroo and Walsh Bay, directly opposite Observatory Hill and the Sydney Observatory.

Spa

The Day Spa by Chuan, on the sub-basement level, is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Five Elements: a short questionnaire points each guest to the element — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water — that needs balancing. Therapists use German BABOR products; there are separate steam rooms for men and women, a hot tub and the Sleep Matters by Chuan programme.

Sports & leisure

A Health Club with gym, Aqua Sculpt classes in the pool and a floodlit, championship-size hard tennis court across the road, complete with a clubhouse for watching play. The court key is collected from the concierge.

Restaurants & bars

A restaurant, a bar and a signature afternoon tea; breakfast is a buffet built on local produce, and in-room dining runs 24 hours.

  • The James — contemporary British cooking with an Australian accent
  • Observatory Bar — an astronomy-themed bar and lounge for cocktails, an extensive wine list, share plates and à la carte lunch and dinner
  • The Langham Afternoon Tea — a traditional afternoon tea of scones, finger sandwiches and sweets
Swimming

A 20-metre heated indoor pool on the sub-basement level, with pale stone columns, a star-painted ceiling, beach murals and poolside loungers. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
