The Fullerton Hotel Sydney

About this hotel

General information

The Fullerton Hotel Sydney occupies the former General Post Office at No. 1 Martin Place, in the heart of Sydney’s financial and fashion district. Colonial Architect James Barnet designed the sandstone landmark in a Victorian take on the Italian Renaissance; its facades carry sculptures and a marble statue of Queen Victoria, and the carved stonework was carefully restored in 2019. A modern high-rise tower adjoins the heritage building, so rooms divide between classic Heritage and light-filled Tower categories.

The Place, in the atrium, pairs modern Australian cooking with Southeast Asian signature dishes, while The Bar in the lobby is known for cocktails and afternoon tea. The Fullerton Club Lounge occupies level 28, and the heritage building houses a 24-hour gym and business centre. Five event spaces include the Grand Ballroom for 1,400 guests, Sydney’s largest pillarless hotel space, and the Heritage Ballroom beneath an 11-metre dome, where the city’s first public telephone exchange opened in 1882.

Location

At No. 1 Martin Place in Sydney’s central business district, with the driveway entrance on Pitt Street. Martin Place and Wynyard stations are a 3–4-minute walk away, with Darling Harbour, the Royal Botanic Garden, Barangaroo, the Opera House and the Museum of Contemporary Art close by. The international airport is 15.4 km away (about 35 minutes by taxi), the domestic terminal 12.4 km.

Sports & leisure

The 24-hour fitness centre on level 6 of the heritage building has cardio machines, treadmills, free weights and strength equipment. For runners, the hotel suggests city routes of 2 to 10 km.

For children

Cots are available on request, and children up to 12 can stay in their parents’ room using the existing beds. Children may join their parents in the Fullerton Club Lounge during the day; the hotel can recommend babysitters but does not book them.

Restaurants & bars

The Place, set in the light-filled atrium, serves à la carte lunch and dinner: modern Australian cuisine alongside Southeast Asian signature dishes. The Bar in the lobby is a cocktail bar that hosts the signature afternoon tea each day, and the pastry team’s pride is a 32-layer chocolate cake.

Swimming

The nearest beach, Bondi, is 8 km from the hotel.

Pets

Pets are not allowed; service animals are welcome.
