Pebble Beach infinity pool among palms by the sea

About this hotel

General information

qualia, written in lower case, occupies the northernmost tip of Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays, among eucalypts above the Coral Sea and within the Great Barrier Reef. The resort is for adults only, from the age of 16. Its style is a relaxed, contemporary take on Australian design in natural materials: free-standing pavilions sit among the greenery, and life centres on the Long Pavilion, with its restaurant, lounge and library.

Stays include an à la carte breakfast, non-alcoholic drinks, a private electric golf buggy, a 24-hour chauffeur around the island, airport or marina transfers, the gym, tennis and non-motorised watercraft. Close by are the private Pebble Beach with its infinity pool and restaurant, Spa qualia and the resort’s own helipad.

Location

The northern tip of Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays, Queensland. The island’s airport has daily direct Qantas and Virgin Australia flights from major Australian cities and is a few minutes’ transfer from the resort. Ferries also run from the mainland, and the marina has 300 berths.

Spa

Spa qualia is reserved for resort guests and uses three Australian ranges: Sodashi, LaGaia Unedited and People4Ocean. Signature journeys are Driftaway Sensory Journey, Whitsunday Escape and qualia Essence, alongside couples’ baths, massages, facials, body and holistic therapies and treatments for mothers-to-be.

Sports & leisure

Included: catamarans, pedal boards, sea kayaks and paddleboards, tennis, qualia Gym with its ocean-facing balcony, yoga, Fluidform sessions and walks on the island trails. At extra cost: trips to Whitehaven Beach, flights over Heart Reef, snorkelling and diving on the Great Barrier Reef, sailing and fishing, charters on the motor yacht Palm Beach, golf at Hamilton Island Golf Club on Dent Island and the Cultural Island Discovery tour.

Restaurants & bars

Both restaurants build their menus on seasonal Australian produce, and in-pavilion dining is available.

  • Long Pavilion — the main restaurant and lounge among the eucalypts, for breakfast, dinner and high tea with Charles Heidsieck Champagne
  • Pebble Beach — beachfront restaurant for lunch and dinner, with simply prepared seafood and local dishes
  • Talk and Taste and Conversations with the Sommelier — paired tastings such as sake and sashimi, Champagne with oysters or caviar, and wine with cheese or crudo
