InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef stretches along a broad white-sand beach on Hayman Island, a green island in the Coral Sea within the Great Barrier Reef. Accommodation runs from elegant rooms to villas with private pools, set in wings by the beach, the lagoon and the pool, with the residences tucked away on a secluded hillside.
Days revolve around the water: pools with sea views, diving and snorkelling, boat trips and excursions into the island’s distinctive nature. The Hayman Spa, several restaurants and bars and the Planet Trekkers kids’ club round out the picture. The resort has 15 indoor and outdoor event spaces for up to 300 guests, a business centre, concierge and butler service and free Wi-Fi, and it arranges weddings and honeymoon programmes.
Location
On Hayman Island in the Whitsunday archipelago: 55 minutes by boat, or 15 minutes by seaplane or helicopter, from the airport on Hamilton Island.
Spa
Hayman Spa has a sauna, a hydrotherapy bath, a relaxation area, 11 treatment rooms and a treatment pavilion in the garden. Treatments use Subtle Energies, an Australian house rooted in Ayurvedic principles, and the Hayman Hair Salon works with Kevin Murphy products.
Sports & leisure
There are two outdoor pools: the Hayman Pool and a heated infinity pool looking out to sea. A 24-hour gym, yoga and meditation classes and a golf simulator sit alongside a recreation centre with tennis and squash courts, basketball, croquet, bocce and billiards. At high tide the beach offers complimentary paddleboards, kayaks and sailing boats, and there is snorkelling, diving, fishing, yacht charters, guided nature walks and helicopter and seaplane flights.
For children
During school holidays the Planet Trekkers kids’ club runs daily from 8.30am, with nature walks, beach activities, arts, crafts and cooking sessions and reef-themed scavenger hunts. The restaurants have children’s menus, and babysitting is available on request.

Four restaurants and bars and a café, plus private dining – on the beach, in a poolside cabana or at the Chef’s Table in the resort kitchen – and picnics on nearby islands.
- Pacific — signature restaurant and bar facing the ocean, from breakfast to an à la carte dinner of Australian cooking built on Queensland seafood and premium meats, with Australian wines, boutique beers and premium spirits
- Amici — restaurant set among greenery, serving Mediterranean antipasti, oven-fired pizza, handmade pasta and Australian wines
- Aqua — restaurant and bar on the edge of the Hayman Pool, with seafood to share, salad bowls, California-Mexican dishes, fresh juices and cocktails
- Bam Bam — restaurant and bar by the infinity pool, serving Pan-Asian cuisine with Australian touches
- Grove Boutique & Café — daytime café and boutique with Campos coffee, sandwiches, pastries and an ice-cream bar
Swimming
The resort sits directly on a fine sandy beach; the Beachfront Pavilions open onto a private adults-only beach.
Rooms
182 rooms, suites and villas combine contemporary design with island motifs, spread across the Beach Wing, Lagoon Wing and Pool Wing, the Hayman Pavilions and four hilltop Hayman Residences. The Beach Wing lies by the sand, the Lagoon Wing on the east side overlooks the lagoon, the infinity pool and the Coral Sea, and the Pool Wing borders the Hayman Pool.

Beachfront Pavilion

Three Bedroom Hayman Beach House
Three bedrooms (two king-size, one twin, each with a sitting area), a living room, dining for eight, a private garden, two terraces with plunge pools and a large terrace with an infinity pool and loungers. Direct beach access and Coral Sea views.
Lagoon Room
In the Lagoon Wing, with a king-size or twin beds, a sofa sitting area, dressing room and bathroom with bath and shower; some have a balcony or terrace over the lagoon and infinity pool.
Lagoon Ocean View Room
A king-size or twin beds, sofa sitting area, dressing room and bathroom with bath and shower; some have a balcony facing the Coral Sea.
Lagoon King Suite
In the Lagoon Wing, with a separate king-size bedroom with workspace and dressing room, a large lounge with dining for four and an open-plan bathroom with freestanding bath, separate shower and double vanity. A double balcony overlooks the lily lagoon and the infinity pool; sleeps two adults and a child up to 11.
Lagoon Premium Beach Access Room
One of just four ground-floor rooms in the Lagoon Wing with direct access to Hayman Beach, with a king-size bed, an open-plan dressing area and a bathroom with separate bath, walk-in shower and double vanity. A private patio among lawns and tropical greenery looks out over the Whitsundays.
Family Lagoon Suite
Two bedrooms (one king-size, one twin), a dressing room and two bathrooms with bath and shower; some have two balconies or terraces over the lagoon and infinity pool.
One Bedroom Hayman Suite

Residence guests receive additional services.
