About this hotel

General information

Longitude 131° sits among the red dunes of Australia’s Red Centre, on private land beside the World Heritage-listed Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. It opened in 2002 with Philip Cox’s safari-style tents gathered around a central Dune House; architect Max Pritchard later added outdoor lounges and the Dune Pavilion residence. The structures float above the sand and were designed to be dismantled entirely, leaving the dunes as they were.

There are only 16 tented pavilions, each with Uluru in view from the bed. The lodge keeps close ties with Anangu culture: artworks come from Ernabella Arts, Australia’s oldest Indigenous art centre, and Aboriginal artists join quarterly residencies. Stays are all-inclusive, covering meals, drinks including French Champagne, guided signature excursions and airport transfers.

Location

In the Red Centre of the Northern Territory near Yulara, 17 km by road from Uluru and a 15-minute drive from Ayers Rock Airport, about three hours by air from most state capitals. Shared lodge transfers meeting scheduled flights are included, and private cars cannot drive to the lodge. Alice Springs is 445 km away, Kings Canyon 325 km.

Spa

Spa Kinara, from the Pitjantjatjara word for “moon”, sits low among the dunes in a form that echoes the wiltja, the traditional Anangu shelter. Every treatment opens with a traditional Aboriginal welcome. Therapies use alkeme products and desert ingredients such as Kakadu plum, quandong, desert lime, yellow clay and irmangka-irmangka balm, made by women healers of the local ngangkari programme. Some rituals finish under an outdoor rain shower.

Sports & leisure

Included signature excursions run in small shared groups: Uluru at sunset with drinks, Bruce Munro’s Field of Light, a sunrise walk into Kata Tjuta’s Walpa Gorge, the Mala Walk to Kantju Gorge and a morning walk to Mutitjulu waterhole. At extra cost: the Valley of the Winds and the 10 km Uluru base walk, helicopter flights from the lodge helipad, camel rides, scenic light-plane flights, cycling around Uluru, day trips to Ernabella Arts and Kings Canyon, and private touring. The 5 km Longitude Loop circles the property with interpretive signs on desert flora and fauna; there is no gym.

For children

Children aged 10 and over are welcome.
