About this hotel
General information
Llao Llao is the classic mountain resort of Argentine Patagonia. It sits on a low rise inside Nahuel Huapi National Park, between Lake Nahuel Huapi and Lake Moreno, with Cerro López and Mount Tronador behind it. The architect Alejandro Bustillo picked the site for its scenery and its existing port, and built in a Canadian-lodge idiom of cypress logs and larch shingles. The first hotel of 1938 was lost to fire, and the present Bustillo building dates from 1940; aristocrats, diplomats and well-known names have stayed here ever since.
Inside, the mood comes from wood and stone: hand-finished floorboards of solid cypress and hemlock, and a lobby of timber and stone columns, leather and antler chandeliers. The 15-hectare grounds hold an 18-hole golf course, a private marina and a beach. A panoramic bridge links the historic building to the more contemporary Moreno Wing, bringing the total to 205 rooms and suites, and each season has its own rhythm, from skiing in winter to days on the lakes in summer.
Location
The hotel stands on the Llao Llao peninsula in Río Negro province, at kilometre 25 of Avenida Bustillo outside San Carlos de Bariloche. Downtown Bariloche is 25 km away, Bariloche airport 35 km, the Cerro Catedral ski area 20 km and Buenos Aires about 1,600 km. The Puerto Pañuelo pier, where the Lake Crossing boats arrive, is 500 m from the hotel.
Spa
Llao Llao Spa pairs natural products with modern equipment and works by appointment. The menu covers facials for women, men and teenagers, cell-renewal treatments, detox rituals (ionised bath, algae bath, thermal fango bath, marine clay and the house Llao Llao experience) and hydrotherapy programmes — Antistress, Hydrostrech, Balneosel and a tired-legs treatment. The health club adds a sauna, a jacuzzi with a view, the heated pools and a well-equipped gym.
Sports & leisure
Golf is the centrepiece: an 18-hole course within the national park, with 360-degree views of Lake Nahuel Huapi, the mountains and old-growth forest. The club has a pro shop with club hire, a driving range and two putting greens; resident professionals give private and group lessons, and golf cross is on offer too.
- outdoors — forest walks, mountain biking, instructor-led archery, a hard-court tennis court and football
- on Lake Moreno in summer — kayaking, windsurfing, stand-up paddle, canoeing and fly casting, with marina staff on hand for beginners
- further afield — boat trips, fishing, rafting, canopy lines, 4x4 outings, birdwatching and Patagonian excursions
- indoors — yoga, stretching, spinning and functional training classes, a bridge room, library, games room, TV lounge and evening shows
For children
Children aged 4 to 10 have an outdoor activity programme, run in groups by age; places must be booked ahead and sessions may be called off in poor weather. In summer the marina teaches water sports to children and teenagers, and there is a games library indoors.
