Iguazú Grand Hotel

About this hotel

General information

Iguazú Grand Hotel is a garden resort on the edge of Puerto Iguazú, a few minutes' drive from Iguazú Falls, part of the largest waterfall system on earth. It sits within lush grounds laid out by the landscape architects of Estudio Carlos Thays, threaded with three outdoor pools, an artificial lake stocked with fish and an ecological trail. Every room is a suite, looking onto the gardens or the pools.

The hotel is built around families, couples and groups of friends: alongside the Spa del Paraíso wellness centre there is the Club de la Selva for children and a set of tennis courts. The kitchens work with organic, seasonal produce from certified agroecological growers in Misiones, and the hotel runs a sustainability programme that includes offsetting its carbon footprint. Four event rooms, 935 m² in all, host weddings and meetings.

Location

The hotel lies on Ruta Nacional 12 (km 1640) in Puerto Iguazú, Misiones province, minutes by road from Iguazú Falls and Iguazú National Park. It makes a practical base for the Brazilian side of the falls, the Itaipú dam on the Paraná, the Jesuit mission ruins of San Ignacio Miní and the Hito Tres Fronteras landmark, where the Iguazú and Paraná rivers divide Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.

Spa

Spa del Paraíso, within the wellness centre, has five treatment rooms, wet and dry saunas, a relaxation room, a heated pool, a Roman bath and a large gym. Its menu draws on the forest's ingredients — yerba mate, citrus and local herbs — with signature facials such as Facial de Yerba Mate and Oro y Miel, hot-stone massage, reflexology, couples' massage in a double room and the Body Clean sea-salt scrub. The salon covers hair, manicures and pedicures, and a separate Spa Kids menu caters to children.

Sports & leisure

Most of the leisure happens within the grounds:

  • three outdoor pools in the gardens and a heated pool in the wellness centre
  • a state-of-the-art gym
  • tennis courts
  • walks along the Sendero Ecológico trail and around the artificial lake
  • nearby: both the Argentine and Brazilian sides of Iguazú Falls, the Itaipú dam, the San Ignacio Miní ruins, the Parque das Aves bird park and the semi-precious stone mines about 40 km from Iguazú
For children

Club de la Selva runs a daily programme for all ages: creative workshops, theatre, and an introduction to Guaraní culture and the rainforest. Outdoors there is soap football, climbing, a zip line, fish-spotting at the artificial lake and nature walks on the ecological trail. Children under five must be accompanied by an adult over 18. The two-room Garden Suite King suits families, and the spa offers Spa Kids treatments.

Restaurants & bars

Two restaurants and two bars, cooking largely with organic regional produce:

  • El Jardín Restaurant — contemporary Misiones cuisine from seasonal ingredients, with garden views; 7am–11.30pm
  • La Terraza — a parrilla using organic produce, with meat aged in-house using modern techniques, overlooking the pools
  • Lobby Bar — coffee, cocktails, a wine list and snacks, with a terrace above the gardens and pools
  • Pool Bar — cool drinks and cocktails beside the pools
  • Room Service — in-suite dining, 7am–11.30pm
Swimming

There is no beach here: three outdoor pools are set in the gardens, and a heated pool sits in the wellness centre next to the Roman bath.
