General information
Alvear Palace Hotel fills an eleven-storey belle époque palace on the corner of Avenida Alvear and Ayacucho Street, at the heart of Recoleta, the most polished quarter of Buenos Aires. Built as a grand hotel for the European travellers then arriving in the city, it was reshaped in the early 1930s into the capital’s benchmark of refinement. The lobby, salons and rooms follow the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles, with crystal chandeliers, gold-leaf walls, period furniture and fine paintings.
Today there are 207 rooms and suites in a modern French style, while the 10th and 11th floors hold the more contemporary Lounge Suites with their own Alvear Lounge. The concierges belong to Les Clefs d’Or, and a butler team looks after the Lounge Suites and every suite from the Alvear Suite upwards. Ten banqueting halls seat from 10 to 400 guests, making the hotel a fixture for business meetings, weddings and large receptions. It is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.
Location
The hotel stands at Avenida Alvear 1891 in Recoleta, a district of parks, broad avenues, classical façades, antique dealers, boutiques and traditional cafés. Several of the city’s main museums and cultural centres are close by, and the financial district is only five minutes away.
Spa
The Spa & Fitness Center has a dedicated wellness area with steam baths, saunas, pressure showers, a jacuzzi, relaxation rooms and a pebble sensations path that alternates water temperatures and pressures. Massages range from relaxing and deep tissue to aromatherapy, hot stones, lymphatic drainage, reflexology, Thai, Californian, shiatsu, four-hand and Pindas. Longer rituals of several hours include Moment for Two for couples, the Alvear Experience with a milk and rose-petal immersion, and a Mini spa day; beauty treatments are offered alongside.
Sports & leisure
On the 11th floor there is an indoor heated pool with a whirlpool area and its own Pool Bar, and two upper terraces serve as solariums with loungers among vertical gardens. The fitness centre is split between cardio and strength zones with Technogym equipment, and offers fitness assessments and Kinesis cable training. The Les Clefs d’Or concierges help plan time in the city, from Recoleta’s museums and galleries to walks through its parks.
For children
Families are well served by the two-bedroom Diplomatic Suite, which sleeps four with room for a fifth guest, and by the Prestige Diplomatic Suite with two bedrooms and a separate kitchen. The Governor suites connect to Palace rooms, and connecting rooms are available across many categories.

Dining runs from the historic lobby to the rooftop terraces.
- Alvear Grill — contemporary Argentine grill cooking, with prime cuts over quebracho and espinillo embers, a glass-fronted grill and a cocktail bar for aperitifs
- L’Orangerie — a light-filled room for breakfast, a seasonal cold buffet lunch, classic afternoon tea with the house Alvear Blend and Sunday brunch
- Lobby Bar — French wood panelling, appetisers and classic cocktails in a room that has drawn Buenos Aires society since the 1930s
- Alvear Roof Bar — an 11th-floor terrace above Avenida Alvear for sunsets, sushi, light dishes and signature cocktails
- Alvear Sushi Bar — an open-air terrace with Recoleta views, sushi prepared by a dedicated sushi chef and cocktails
- Pool Bar — juices, smoothies and sandwiches beside the rooftop pool
Swimming
There is no beach. Swimming is in the sustainably heated indoor rooftop pool, free for hotel guests all year, with two solarium terraces and a solar-heated shower on the 10th floor.
Rooms
The 207 rooms and suites fall into three groups: the classic Rooms & Suites in a modern French style, the Grand Suites with reception halls and separate living rooms, and the Lounge Suites on the 10th and 11th floors, with contemporary design, butler service and access to the Alvear Lounge.
Every room has an HD TV with cable and Chromecast, free Wi-Fi, Egyptian cotton linen, a work desk, a safe, a marble bathroom with hydromassage, TV and shower, L’Occitane toiletries, a fruit basket on arrival and mineral water at turndown; the whole hotel is non-smoking.
Studio Suite
A Lounge Suite on the upper floors of the inner wing, with contemporary furniture, silks, velvets and wool carpets, and in most cases a generous dressing room. The Carrara and black Marquina marble bathroom has a bathtub and separate shower.
Deluxe Lounge Suite
A bedroom and an intimate separate living room on the upper floors of the inner wing, with a marble bathroom holding a bathtub and separate shower. An extra bed can be added.
Junior Suite Le Mirador
A bright upper-floor suite whose large windows look over the Recoleta parks towards the Río de la Plata, with a French balcony or terrace balcony. The Carrara and black Marquina marble bathroom has a bathtub and separate shower.
Deluxe Suite Le Mirador
Set at the very top of the building, with a separate bedroom and living room and open views of the Recoleta parks and the Río de la Plata. An extra bed can be added.
Roof Garden Suite
A bedroom, a spacious living room, a guest powder room, a terrace and a balcony overlooking the Recoleta parks, plus a marble bathroom with whirlpool bath and shower. Automatic wind-sensing curtains give complete darkness.
Diplomatic Suite
An elegant living room and two bedrooms for up to four guests, with a fifth possible. The Botticino marble bathroom has a jacuzzi and separate shower.
Governor Suite
A corner suite looking over Recoleta, with a reception hall, an oval living room, a bedroom and a Botticino marble bathroom with jacuzzi. It connects to Palace rooms, which suits families and delegations.
Governor Executive Suite
A corner suite with a reception hall, oval living room and bedroom, dressed in gold-toned French fabrics with bronze and crystal chandeliers. It connects to the Junior category.
Prestige Diplomatic Suite
An upper-floor suite in bold Art Deco, hung with photographs of River Plate culture, with a reception area, an oval living room over the Recoleta parks, two bedrooms, a large dressing room and a separate kitchen. Sleeps up to four.
Alvear Suite
A grand reception hall, an oval living room and a bedroom with dressing room, furnished with classic pieces and works of art. Carrara marble bathrooms with jacuzzi and separate shower; butler service included.
Presidential Suite
A corner suite looking over Recoleta, with a reception hall, a dining room for eight, a large oval living room, a bedroom and two Botticino marble bathrooms with hydromassage.
Executive Presidential Suite
A round marble-floored reception hall, a large living room, dining for up to ten, a bedroom with dressing room and two Carrara marble bathrooms. An extra bed can be added.
Royal Suite
A Parisian-style apartment over the Recoleta parks with a reception hall, living room, dining room for eight, study, large bedroom, two Botticino marble bathrooms with sauna and a small kitchen with its own service entrance. Slavonian oak floors and Argentine art run throughout.
Palace Classic
A room for one or two in a modern French style. The Botticino marble bathroom has a jacuzzi and separate shower.
Palace Premier
A roomier option for one or two, mixing classic furniture with relaxed modern touches. The Botticino marble bathroom has a jacuzzi and separate shower.
Junior Suite
An open-plan suite with a sitting area in the quiet inner wing of the building. The Botticino marble bathroom has a jacuzzi and separate shower.
Premier Junior Suite
A generous suite with a sitting area; most face outwards and have a large dressing room. The Botticino marble bathroom has a jacuzzi.
Deluxe Suite
A bedroom and separate living room in the quiet inner wing, styled like a Parisian apartment. A third guest can be accommodated.
Prestige Junior Suite
A bright upper-floor suite with views of Recoleta and the Río de la Plata and an integrated sitting area. The Botticino marble bathroom has a jacuzzi.
Premier Deluxe Suite
A bedroom and separate living room facing either the street or the inner wing; most have a guest powder room or a dressing room. A third guest can be accommodated.
Prestige Deluxe Suite
A high-floor suite with a separate bedroom and living room and open views of Recoleta and the Río de la Plata. A third guest can be accommodated.
